I am trying to get the SDM3 server to find the 2413U controller, and when I plug in the controller, I can see Windows assign COM15 to the device, but the SDM cannot find it. I have version 1.01.138.308. Is the 2413 supported on this version of the SDM? The quick start guide says that it supports the 2414.
Thanks, Patrick Duffy |

No, the SDM software provided a connection to the first generation Insteon power line controller only. It is not necessary for use with Insteon power line modems.

SDM3 is only for the old 2414U 2414S and 2814U PLC models. It is not for the any of the PLM models. 100% different protocol between a PLC and a PLM.

Is there another SDM-like program I can use to communicate with the 2413? (Besides using raw serial). It would be nice to have the ActiveX API to call. I would like to avoid writing my own driver. I understand there is a developer kit, do I need to purchase it to get the driver?

No device driver is used with the PLM. Open the Com port the PLM is connected to and send Serial commands to the PLM. The developer kit does not provide a device driver as none is needed. It will provide information on the serial commands used with a PLM.

Thanks for the information. I found this link: http://www.madreporite.com/insteon/insteon.html that explains the serial commands. Is there an 'official' link that describes the latest version for the 2413, or do I need to buy the kit to get it?

The basic PLM interface is the same for all the PLM variants. I would try using the links to documents off the link you posted before spending $200 for a subscription.

Thanks Lee, I will give it a try. I only need the 'basic' commands for now, as I am just trying to add the 2413 support to my application. Also, I am wondering if there is an area on this forum that I can post for folks to try out my free copies of my software, in exchange for evaluation/testing? I need some home-automation enthusists and/or programmers that like to play with kind of software so I can get some feedback. My website is http://homeexcel.net
