We recently launched a "temperature controlled pet carrier" by Komfort Pets that is pretty cool. We tested it in the car and at home and with heating & cooling, it keeps the temperature inside the carrier at apprx 70 degrees. We can see it being used if you travel with your pets or leave them home and your house is colder or warmer than a comfortable temperature. See them here: http://www.smarthome.com/_/ProductResults.aspx?Ntt=komfort%20pets
They are a bit pricey at $299 but the Mfg says they hope to bring the price down in the $199 range by spring.
