Posted - 08/02/2012 : 12:38:52 AM The newest version of the HouseLinc 2 software has the BEEP command removed. When you goto EVENTS and you'd like to trigger a switch to BEEP when an event occured (e.g. someone passes by a PIR sensor), you used to be able to send a BEEP signal. It appears that functionality has been removed.
Note - I have requested SmartHome's tech team to respond to this over the last several weeks but I've received no response back beyond the initial requests made to customer service (2 phone calls and a few back and forth emails).
Anyone have any ideas? |

Posted - 08/10/2012 : 10:53:42 AM Toys4Me: Confirmed.
I've checked my device's properties: SwitchLinc Relay - 2476S, 0x02:0x1C:0x3A and it matches yours and I've encountered the same issue with HouseLinc 2.9.27. I've ended up reverting back to HouseLinc 2.9.17 in order for the command to appear in the EVENT edit menu.
There is documentation available about the BEEP command being added in their June 30th release:
Their Product Revision History suggests: http://wiki.smarthome.com/index.php?title=HouseLinc
HouseLinc 2.5.0.35 - released June 30, 2010 Included Beep command under the Control/Status tab for devices that have beepers
However, I don't see any documentation about the 2.9.27 release on that page even though the software itself provides a link to an update.
I contacted SmartHome support whom wasn't very helpful suggesting that they could not provide commentary - the issue is out of their hands.
I contacted Insteon Gold Support and their response was that they could not confirm nor deny that the command has been removed. They suggested that they would not communicate with development on the issue 'for obvious reasons' (clearly - no obvious to me).
Why bother putting forth release notes for updates/changes if you're not going to document that a feature has been removed?
Most software/firmware/hardware companies with whom I've dealt with over the years provide some valuable feedback. However, I received fruitless/cold responses from both Insteon and SmartHome.
There are other options I'm pursuing at this point, as a result. |

Posted - 08/08/2012 : 2:46:42 PM I can confirm that for SwitchLinc devices that should have the beep as an option that HouseLinc now improperly does not offer beep on the event edit menu. I have a working event macro with beep used as a reminder that a future event will occur. It was created and still runs using HouseLinc. When I open the event for editing, selecting edit for the beep action does not offer the beep or duration setting any longer.

Posted - 08/03/2012 : 5:32:50 PM Of 14 SwitchLincs installed here (HL 2.9.27), all i2 or later (6) have the beep option available as an Action, none of the previous revisions do. |

Posted - 08/03/2012 : 4:45:37 PM I can confirm that a 2476D SwitchLinc Dimmer with v.38 firmware presents the Beep option. I have an Event with an Action Beep for that SwitchLinc. HL at 2.9.27
What is the device type and firmware. HL does things based on device type and firmware level

Hi LeeG - Can you confirm that the functionality has been put back into the HouseLinc software? Just want to confirm that you see the 'BEEP' option as an ACTION under EVENTS. Please let me know.
Best, Gregory |

Posted - 08/03/2012 : 4:26:11 PM Thank you for your commentary gentlemen.
Here's more insight: This USED to work on the same equipment, so I know the switch has the functionality to BEEP. When I upgraded the houselinc software from 2.9.17, the functionality no longer is available.
I just spoke with customer service at SmartHome and they confirmed that 1) they spoke with development was walking out the door at 4pm PST and 2) the functionality was removed without notification and that they have no plans to remove it back in.
Note - we're talking about a DROP DOWN FIELD that used to be available in the software that is now no longer there.
Here's a snapshot of the software 2.9.17 (the last release with the BEEP command)

Note - I used it with a PIR to detect when one of my dogs would enter a room and pee. The sensor would detect movement and cause the wall-switch in my office to BEEP for 5 seconds.
With the command remove, the functionality no longer exists. I'm baffled why development removed the feature and why they have no plans on re-implementing it. |

Posted - 08/02/2012 : 11:59:07 AM Not all SwtichLincs are capable of beeping. In particular, Switchlincs were available years before a beep was incorporated. I don't know precisely when the beep was added. |
