I have just switched over to Insteon after 30 years with X-10. The X-10 is just too unreliable with all of the computers and other electronics that I have in the house even with all of the filters, etc. I have Houselinc with a 2413UH and a 2412n with the smartlinc web interface. I have an iPad3, iPod4, iPod2, and an iPhone4 that I am using with the smartlinc. I started with the free Insteon IOS app and then read all the hype about MobiLinc so I purchased MobiLinc HD for $50.00 because I have the iPad. I have played with both for a couple of weeks now and my opinion is that even though the MobiLinc has more features than the free app I find that the free app is much more stable and responsive than MobiLinc. Just my two cents for anyone thinking about MobiLinc. I am not bashing MobiLinc, just sharing my experience

I had one 2440 that was particularly troublesome and would not sync to Houselinc no matter what I did. I ended up deleting it from Houselinc and waiting for all the links to be erased and then doing a factory reset on the 2440. I put houselinc in add mode and held a button on the 2440 until it saw it and installed it. I then dropped all of the modules I wanted to control on the various buttons and set brightness and ramp levels and waited for a few hours until the database digested everything and all is well with that remote and it is synced to the database. This is a lot different than X10 but it is very solid once it is configured properly

Well, I got a couple of the 2440's (I have six and three more on the way) working OK but it is a matter of playing around a bit. Four of them are straight links to single units and are no problem. The suggestion about checking for the "no changes pending" was a lifesaver and will enable me to get through the setup with the new 2440's which will all have the "all units off" scene as one of their buttons. I live alone so I like to make sure everything is off when I leave. They work great when they are synced properly. Thanks again for all your help. Burt

Sounds like a Sunday project. The sequence of doing things makes sense. I will post the results tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. Its TV time now with my IR Pronto remote which is much simpler technology, build the layout on the computer with all of the appropriate HEX commands and download it to the remote and go watch TV. Thanks again, Burt

No problem. To create a scene in HouseLinc:

  • Select the Scenes tab (not drop-down) at the upper left;

  • Select the Properties tab on the right;

  • Click the Add icon in the toolbar;

  • Name the new scene;

  • Check the Included box for each responder and each controller device/button in the scene (or the Plus sign next to the name of each multi-scene device);

  • Select the Responder and Controller boxes for each unit as desired;

  • For Responders, click Edit to change the ramp rate and the On response (on, off, or somewhere in between for dimmers);

  • In the scene Properties, click Save.

Allow HouseLinc time to synchronize all the controller and responder links to power line devices. After all the power line devices are done, press the On button on battery-operated controller devices one at a time--allow HouseLinc to synchronize each unit before moving on to the next. (Battery-operated devices take special handling, since they turn their radios off after transmitting signals and receiving confirmations.)

If you follow these steps and continue to have difficulty, go back to the Devices tab on the left and the Links tab on the right. One at a time, select a device in the scene and look midway down the Links screen, between the Controllers and Responders sections. Each should say "no changes pending". If any say "not synchronized", that's the problem.

I have the scene built to turn each unit off. Some are switchlinks or appliance links and they are instant. Some are lamplinks or dimmer switches and they are set for a 5 second ramp off. I have tried to press the OFF button and release it, press and hold, and double tap. I have also tried the ON button. There are a total of about 20+ units in this scene and some of them will respond, some will start to respond, some will not respond at all. Of course they are not all on, maybe only five or six. If I look at the activity in houselinc it shows many presses of the remote button so it is seeing what I am doing but it does not seem to know exactly what to do about it. I have several remotelincs which are all brand new and I have tried programming at least three of them with similar results. If I do a normal linc with the remotelinc and a module it is solid. I don't really feel like doing this with 20+ units plus it would be impossible to get the 5 second ramp off which I really like

What actually occurs when you use the remote paddle? Ar you pressing Off to turn the lights off?

I gave MobiLinc another chance and spent some time getting familiar with it and you are right, it works fine. With switching the whole house over to Insteon from X-10 I am trying to do too many things at once and not spending enough time with each one to get as familiar as I should. SmartLinc and the IOS apps actually work very well, but HouseLinc is another story. I know this is a user forum but some of the people here seem very knowledgeable. I am trying to use one button on a 2440 remotelinc to control a scene that I built in houselinc to turn off all units when I am leaving the house. I had no problem linking a wall switch as a controller for this scene but linking the 2440 does not seem to work very well. Is there a preferred procedure to do this? Would it be better to use the 2440 to trigger an event to control the scene rather than controlling the scene directly? Thanks in advance for any advice

I haven't had any responsiveness or stability issues with MobiLinc here. Have you stopped by the author's support forum? If you post more details there, perhaps he can suggest potential solutions and you can suggest areas you would like to see improved. Wes is great about incorporating feature requests.
