I am attempting to setup a SecureLinc 2 system with Cellular and broadband connections only (no PSTN). I got a SIM from my cell provider and enabled it with a simple voice and texting plan. I setup the SecureLinc 2 the best I could figure and found that the unit will not dial out on the Cell connection to inform me of an alarm. I know that the SIM has been activated, but when I run diagnostics for the GPRS/GSM inside Installer mode I am told that I do not have an APN entered. I thought that an APN was only needed if I was going to do data over a mobile device. Do I have to have a data plan in order to use the Cell connection?

Well, I found the APN, APN User, and APN password for my provider. I plugged these into the configuration and everything is working now. I did not purchase a data plan, but I am sure that if I am using data my provider will hit me with one. I guess I will find out and I will let you know what I find.
