Through our three divisions we retail over 6,000 products (www.smarthome.com), manufacture a wide range of remote control lighting products, and develop cutting edge technologies like INSTEON (www.insteon.net). Uses for our products include remote control lighting, whole-house automation, security and surveillance, home entertainment, and pet care. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Sustaining/Continuation engineer to resolve field escalations and manufacturing issues. You will also project manage external/offshore technical teams to qualify new components in revenue-released systems. Lead board re-design efforts are also part of the responsibilities.The ideal candidate will have a solid engineering background including expertise in a medium-to-high volume production environment. Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills are a must. Some travel is required. A demonstrated ability to deliver innovative, cost-effective and timely solutions in a multiple project environment is important.This position emphasizes analog and digital board-level design. Other responsibilities include circuit design & analysis; schematic capture; signal integrity and timing analysis; review of simulation results; board placement studies; analyzing industry specs & data sheets; component & vendor selections; hardware bring-up, debug and test; design documentation; interfacing with post silicon validation and silicon design teams. Must have a demonstrated track record of successful designs with chipsets, microprocessors, networking components, logic gates, and programmable logic devices (CPLD, FPGA, etc); and a good working knowledge of design and analysis of analog circuits. Responsibilities
  • Actively involved with all phases of electrical engineering, with majority of tasks of moderate to high complexity. Conduct functional and environmental tests of new designs to evaluate performance against criteria.
  • Generate complete electrical drawing package including detailed specifications, board level schematics, board lay out and simulation, test and verification support documentation, and bills of material.
  • Resolve engineering and manufacturing issues by providing appropriate design solutions. Apply creativity, innovation, and new ideas where necessary to solve difficult problems. Support contract-manufacturing partners during design transfer and production, as necessary.
  • Review development of manufacturing test procedures and fixtures as well as the analysis of test and field returns.
  • Work closely with other groups (SW, Operations, and Suppliers) to accomplish electrical tasks. May provide guidance to more junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure product design accounts for compliance with applicable safety and technical standards.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement product and process cost optimizations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select vendors, subcontractors, service providers, and consultants.
  • Understand and communicate the economic impacts of product and process changes.
  • Design and conduct experiments for troubleshoot, failure analysis, and root cause identification. Job Requirements:Education:
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience, is required Experience:
  • 5+ years experience in roles related to developing, manufacturing, and supporting complex electronic products in a medium-to-high volume production environment. A proven track record of results.
  • Experience with full life cycle of bringing product to market with a record of successful completion of products and introduction into the marketplace.
  • Familiarity with microprocessor, memory (SDRAM, DRAM), DSP, and RF design, especially related to rugged, mobile, battery operated devices.
  • Experience in low-powered, battery device design.
  • Familiar with PWB layout as it applies to signal integrity, high density interconnect, and EMI, ESD issues.
  • Practical experience with failure analysis and troubleshoot to the component level.
  • Practical experience with formal design and development methodologies, including configuration management and engineering change control.
  • Practical experience with the use of CAE schematic capture software: Orcad preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic and environmental test equipment.
  • Practical experience with regulatory approvals (UL, FCC Part 15, CE Mark, etc.) a strong plus.
  • Experience with design or integration of mobile or wearable devices in rugged environments a strong plus.
  • Practical experience with DFM/DFT methodologies in an electronic manufacturing environment a plus. Skills:
