  • What's Included
  • The Dakota Alert DCPA-2500 Wireless Driveway Probe Alert is a driveway alarm kit that detects vehicles as they enter a driveway. The transmitter operates on one 9-Volt Battery (not included) and has 50 feet of direct burial wire connecting the probe to the exterior case. The probe is buried parallel to the driveway, and will detect vehicles passing by within approximately 10-12 feet. The direct burial cable can be run to a tree or post nearby, where the transmitter box is located. When a vehicle drives by, the transmitter will send a signal to the DCR-2500 receiver up to 1/2 a mile away. The receiver has four form "C" relay outputs and one 12VDC output. The output durations are adjustable up to 10 minutes and the receiver will play one of four different tunes that are selected at the transmitter so that different zones can be distinguished. The receiver is powered by a 12VDC transformer and also offers a 5 minute exit delay so you can leave the house without disturbing any occupants as well as a reminder beep and counter function. Add up to 3 Extra Transmitters to your Wireless Driveway Probe Alert.

The DCPA-2500 is ideal in locations where there may be deer or other large animals that would cause false signals with a motion detecting system. Also, because the probe is buried underground it non obtrusive and aesthetically pleasing. The transmitter is weatherproof and meant for exterior locations.

Fast service, easy to install, and works just has I'd hoped.

I've only had the unit installed for a day. The installation was very easy, and the probe and receiver(s) come from the factory preset to work together. Everything is customizable, if you want, but is a very easy to install "plug and play" unit out of the box. After reading several reviews online I paid extra for quality, and I hope my pleasure with the unit continues as time goes on.

I am thrilled with this product! It was recommended to me by my friend who has this model. It is just what we needed to "alert" us when "vehicles" are coming down our driveway. I am specifying vehicles because we have a large deer population in our area. Thankfully, it isn't chiming for the deer. Installation was not complicated so it didn't take long to have it in and working. A big "Thanks!" to the SMART people who invented this system.

A good system so far. After adjusting the placement it registers every vehicle that comes up the drive. Occasionally there is a false alert but overall a good product.

The alert is working as advertised.
The probe is installed 300' and over a slight rise from our house, with some trees between, so the range is not a problem. I am happy with it. It required about 20 minutes to install, and that included digging a small trench to bury the probe and wire. If I could change one thing, I might alter the alert signal. It sounds like a cheesy electronic doorbell from the 1980s. In this day of limitless choices for ringtones on our cell phones, you would think the manufacturer could come up with a better signal. Still, I give it five stars.

Dakota driveway alarm from Smarthome arrived quickly and was well packaged. No surprises in the box - description was good. Item was easy to install, instructions were well written. Odd size batteries, but at least they were included and are available locally when I need to replace them. The cable between the probe and the transmitter box had a defect in the outer housing. A quick call to the Dakota customer service line - answered by a person - and they had a new probe assembly on it's way to me. It arrived 2-3 days later and I completed the installation. Would rather have it perfect right out of the box, but their prompt response will have me do business with them again. Probe and transmitter are located about 750 yards from my house - relatively direct line of sight except for a couple of trees and the brick exterior wall of the house. No problems picking up even the neighbor's ATV running past at 20 mph. Will see how well it works with about 5 acres of corn to send signal through likely starting in July next year. Thanks to Smarthome for having this item stocked and shipped so quickly, and thanks to Dakota for making a good product.

Dakota Alert DCPA-2500 Wireless Driveway Probe Alert

I installed this unit one year ago, 1200 ft. from my house. It has worked satisfactorily until now. The transmitter still sends a signal if the batteries are momentarily removed and sometimes when a vehicle goes by, maybe 20% of the time. I can't see any damage and have changed the batteries... Any ideas of what is wrong or how to fix it?

I have a long driveway and installed a Winland hard-wired system many years ago. It worked great but I had to replace either the probe/wire or the electronics at least 4 times because of lightning damage after a storm. Worse, because it was connected directly to my home automation system, I had electrical damage to it as well!

I purchased the wireless Dakota Alert system and tried using it with my old Winland wire/probe. It worked just fine without any adjustments at all. And now I have a working driveway alert system without direct electrical connection to my home automation system.

I have also noted that the Dakota system does not give me the 'false alerts' that the Winland system did when there is lightning in the area.
