  • What's Included
  • Improve your comfort, safety, and stress levels in day-to-day household activities with the CastleOS Voice-Controlled Home Automation Software for INSTEON, X10, Z-Wave, UPB, LightwaveRF, WeMo, Nest, Sonos, Plex, XBMC, MediaBrowser3, and DirecTV. CastleOS is also compatible with home automation devices from brands including Aeon Labs, Yale, Phillips, Honeywell, GE, Leviton, and Sonos. CastleOS uses a unique dual device control system that accepts simple voice commands through a Kinect device, or commands through the CastleOS web and mobile application on any Internet accessible iOS and Android smart device (smartphone/tablet), or computer anywhere in the world. Commands to your home are relayed from the Kinect or web and mobile application to your Windows XP computer which can communicate with an unlimited number of interconnected home automation devices such as INSTEON, Z-Wave, UPB, X10, or WeMo via a plugged in INSTEON PLM or USB adapter. CastleOS doesn't just listen to you, but will also communicate with you using sound confirmation notices and verbal responses to questions and commands. The list of compatible devices includes:

    • Aeon Labs Z-Wave Multisensors
    • ecobee3 Thermostats
    • Belkin WeMo
    • Yale Locks
    • Philips Hue
    • GE Z-Wave Keypads
    • Nest Thermostats (2nd Generation)
    • Sonos
And many more. For a full list of compatible devices, please visit the manufacturer website.

The Kinect gives your complete control over your home with an accurate and sophisticated whole-house natural language voice recognition system that monitors your home and listens for command prompts 24/7 without relaying interferences from loud music, movies, TV, and other noises. There is no limit to the amount of Kinect devices that can be connected to your home system, but additional Kinects increase the standard 35-foot transmission range. You can control your home from the web and mobile application if you do not have a Kinect device which is very easy to use and lets you save money and energy through intelligent programming, and remote or automated device control for sophisticated device scheduling, event triggering, device grouping, energy expenditure monitoring, climate control, and system security. The web and mobile application also provides smart read-outs for each individual interconnected device showing real-time information about which group the device is a part of, how much energy and money is used, and projected costs from the device.

    Step-by-Step Android Setup
Seting up your CastleOS with Android is very simple. The Android app is built into the CastleOS installer on the included DVD software that is shipped to you. Install the Android application for CastleOS on your phone by performing the following:
    1. Open the CastleOS web application in the Chrome browser on Android.*

*It must be Chrome, and you should make sure the Chrome browser is fully up to date in the Google Play Store.

    2. After opening CastleOS in Chrome, press the Chrome Menu button (not the CastleOS menu button), and select, "Add to Homescreen.

    3. Give the home screen icon a name of your choice, such as "Castle OS," or "My House," and press save.

    4. Go to the home screen and press the CastleOS icon and open the Android application.

    CastleOS Intelligence Setting

DawnGuard: DawnGuard is a one-step feature for making sure lights don't stay on when the sun comes up. You simply add a device, group, or scene to the list, and it will automatically turn off that device, group, or scene when the sun comes up every day. It also auto adjusts daily for the actual sunrise time.

NightShield: NightShield is a one-step feature for making sure lights turn on when the sun goes down. You simply add a device, group, or scene to the list, and it will automatically turn on that device, group, or scene when the sun comes up every day. It also auto adjusts daily for the actual sunset time. You can also set individual dim levels for devices rather than being fully on.

EnergyEye: EnergyEye is a sensor-driven timer for turning lights and devices off. You simply pick your sensor (such as motion, door, or even a light switch), pick your timer duration, and add devices, groups, and scenes to the list. If no activity is detected from the sensor for the timer duration, the device, group, and scene settings are activated.

PermaLight: PermaLight ensures that a light switch or device stays at a specified setting, even if changed at the switch. Having a party and want to make sure a scene is active and guests don't mistakenly bring the lights to full brightness? Have a light switch that must stay on at all times? PermaLight is great at that. If the switch is changed from is preset position, PermaLight will override the change and return the devices to their preset levels

HungryPet: HungryPet is the simplest automated pet feeder you can find, and the only one that confirms your pet has been fed every day successfully. To use HungryPet, you select the On/Off Module or ApplianceLinc (or other on/off controller such as WeMo and Z-Wave devices) that the pet feeder is plugged in to, and enter times of day you'd like your pet to be fed. That's it, the rest is automatic! No fiddling with complicated digital or analog timers needed. HungryPet only works with one pet feeder on the market, the SuperFeeder.

    Not ready

This program is not ready for prime time still. It looks promising but lacks a good development and support team to fine tune a lot of the issues and provide reliable customer support.

Also, the requirement to run Windows is awful. Should be its own OS (linux based) or run on your own flavor of linux and controlled through web.

I've been running CastleOS for over a year now was one of the first beta testers, and it's been rock solid for me. I can command all my devices without issue, lights come on / turn off quickly, and all my automatic events work without a hitch. I'm looking forward to the sonos and MediaBrowser integration coming up as well.

Castle os works perfectly well with me. Had a problem using voice from a second computer but after talking to the company it now works very well. Waiting for them to add audio to control my Sonos.

CastleOs is not ready for prime time. It is labelled as Beta software. It is full of bugs and errors and inconsistent in it's responses. Your Kinect device must be of a certain kind with external power adaptor and your PLM must be of a certain type and dedicated to CastleOS. Smarthome's systems requirements aren't very clear e.g. it lists PLM but doesn't identify how it is connected or that it must be dedicated. The developer tries very hard to provide customer service, but it is only sporadic evenings and weekends... appears he is working another job during the day. I am now over $325 invested and it's noting more than a toy, at best. I know CastleOS is trying to compete with UDI's ISY99 series, but there is simply NO comparison. ISY just works and CastleOS just doesn't. DO NOT spend $200 until you get the 30 day free trial from www.castleos.com and play with it. Unless your experience is much different than mine, you won't buy.
