  • Expand your WeMo network or get started on one with the WeMo Light Switch from Belkin. This smart Light Switch replaces any standard rocker or toggle switch you have in your home to add the convenience of control over the switch from anywhere in the world. The WeMo Light Switch is a Wi-Fi enabled device that connects to your home Wi-Fi router to allow it to be controlled through the free WeMo app from an Android smartphone or tablet, iPad, iPhone or even iPod Touch. The WeMo app offers you a number of features; you can simply turn the switch On/Off, schedule a time for it to automatically turn On/Off, create various lighting schedules for each day of the week and even program the city you live in to coordinate your light(s) to turn On/Off based on ambient sunlight. The WeMo Light Switch has no minimum wattage which allows it to work with all incandescent, halogen, CFL, fluorescent and LED lighting setups and can also be used to control a ceiling fan. With the WeMo Light Switch you can begin to realize a whole new world of convenience and the more switches you add to your home them more control you'll have.

The WeMo Light Switch is designed as a do-it-yourself installation but can be quickly done by a handyman or electrician if you don't feel comfortable making wire connections. When installing this product it is important to note that it requires a neutral wire and if there is not one in the location you want to install it at the WeMo Light Switch will not work. Refer to the installation video below for step-by-step instructions. It comes with a screwless-faceplate that snaps into place over the switch to leave a clean and professional look. If installing this product into a multi-gang outlet you can simply use the existing faceplate (unless it is replacing a toggle switch in which case a new faceplate will be needed). Note that this Light Switch is not compatible with metal faceplates as they will interfere with the Wi-Fi signal and cause it to not work correctly, or lights that are controlled by multiple switches.

About the WeMo System WeMo is a family of simple, ingenious products that allow you to control home electronics from anywhere. Turn them On or Off, trigger them with motion, and even put them on a schedule. WeMo lives on your smartphone and uses your home Wi-Fi and mobile internet. Setting up and using WeMo is a snap. WeMo truly is your home at your fingertips. WeMo can make your home a more convenient, easy place to be. When you return home, your lights are on. Leave the room, and the TV turns off. Turn off a light downstairs after you've already turned in. Put your home on a schedule - bedroom and living room lights go on in the evening, the kids' playroom gadgets go off at bedtime.

The WeMo App With WeMo you run your home right from your smartphone or tablet. The free WeMo App lets you control individual or multiple devices. Turn off a lamp from the other side of the home. Turn on the lights in the living room, from the other side of town. Schedules are easy to set up too - have a heater or a fan turn on a half hour before you get home to make the temperature just right. With WeMo, it's all up to you.

Security WeMo supports all the latest Wi-Fi security modes including WEP, WPA and WPA2. Therefore WeMo is as secure as you make your home Wi-Fi network. Remote access has been designed with the latest security enhancements in place. In addition to this, the cloud only stores a key that connects your device to your home and not any device specific information.

Range WeMo devices should have the same or better range than most other Wi-Fi devices. Therefore you can put WeMo wherever you get Wi-Fi connectivity using your laptop, tablets or phones. Bad weather and barriers like walls, cabinets, and doors will reduce Wi-Fi Range. If there is an area in your home you have Wi-Fi dead spots you might consider adding a Wi-Fi range extender. WeMo uses very little bandwidth so your very unlikely to see any impact to network performance.

A Perfect Fix Review by Chuckster
    A Perfect Fix

The item arrived on-time and damage free. I love this product. My new home did not come with a light sensor on the seven front soffit lights. I accidentally left them on all-day a couple of times (Luckily the lights are high efficiency LED lamps). I have the experience to wire homes, but did not want to mess with running new wires through insulated walls in the middle of winter. So, with a little shopping around, I found this home-automation switch requiring no wiring changes. (OK, I am a retired engineer and like automation). This product was not expensive and it replaced the switch for my front lights and automatically turns lights on and off via my local time zone with daylight programming options. The program can be overridden with the toggle switch. The programming took all of 2-minutes to setup. I programmed the switch on my PC or Phone once and never had to worry about leaving my lights on. My wife thought it was a silly way to fix my situation and now loves it too!

WeMo Light Switch - A Safety Device Review by Brandy
WeMo Light Switch - A Safety Device

This is indispensable for my home. I don't get that much light at the top of my stairs from the bottom light fixture provided at the foot of the stairs. I have a light fixture up at the top but the switch for it is inside my apartment. Using the bottom light switch and that light fixture cast just ok light but is not safe enough on a dark carpet. Being able to manually turn on my personal hall light from my phone when I reach within my Wi-Fi or put it on the timer is brilliant. This WeMo I count as part of my safety coming and going from my home and eliminates the dark area at the top of my stairs.

Was easy to install and setup. I can easily check the status of the switch on their Android app. I also like the ability to set up rules custom programs for the switch.

    Review of 44509

Could not get it to work with my home network. Tried for hours. Even took to work and tried there with no luck. It was just totally inconsistent in its ability to connect to the network and be seen by my iphone (ios 7.2). And believe me, I installed and un-installed the app many times as well as resetting the device. Not sure if it's because both networks are pretty secure and this really needs a more 'open' network to operate properly. But to me, if a device that is connected to the internet (and open to unwanted intrusion) cannot work in a secure network, then it just invites problems that I am not willing to risk. I should add that I am an IT professional with over 30 yrs experience. Good luck to the novices out there.
