The Atlona AT-HD620 is a well built and potentially useful device depending on what you want to use it for. In my case I wanted to share a 27 Apple Cinema monitor between an IMac 27 and a desktop PC equipped with an ATI 6870 video card that has Mini DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI capacity and like the IMac has resolution capabilities to reach the 2560x1440 Apple Cinema monitor's resolution. The HD620 has two inputs, a Mini DisplayPort and a HDMI and my plan was to Mini DisplayPort the IMac and HDMI the PC. Set up was easy and I looked forward to being able to use the remote to change inputs. The Altona unit uses upscaling to reach 2560x1440 resolution from the HDMI feed. The upscaling works for video with some success, a little noisy but didn't look bad. Static displays however were not that great and text was abysmal to the point of being unreadable in some cases. I connected the PC via the Mini DisplayPort and the output was outstanding and at true 2560x1440 resolution. I hooked up the IMac via HDMI through the HD620 and got the same subpar output with bad text that I had experienced with the PC. Tested the unit with HDMI feeds from other video devices and results were acceptable. You cannot turn off the upscaling and run at HDMI native resolution.

So if you want to hook up a gaming box or a DVD player in order to use an Apple Cinema in lieu of a TV monitor, I think the output and the remote might justify the cost of the HD620. But, if you want to share the Apple Cinema between 2 computers, even 2 Apple products read on.

First though I want to commend SmartHome, the vendor that Amazon used for my purchase, with an excellent return process. No quibbling, they took the unit back without a problem, RMA was painless and done online and I got confirmation of the return immediately upon return delivery to SmartHome. I also found Atlona to be accessible and helpful when I called them to discuss the problems I was having with their product, they gave me no BS and guided me to a better, less expensive alternative, the Atlona AT-MDP21.

The AT-MDP21 is a non-powered KVM switching device that is about 25% the cost of the AT-HD620. It is a simple pass-through unit that can share a single keyboard, video and mouse between 2 CPU
