FOREIGN PRODUCT INFORMATION

We carry some X10 products for 220/240 countries. X10 is working on more of the modules for 220 volts. We will soon be adding additional modules to serve foreign customers. Our list of 220-volt products is on this page from our web site:

http://www.smarthome.com/solution35.html

It lists some of the products we sell for single-phase 220/240 volts and 50 Hz (the type of service found in most residential homes). When you see 220 volt devices on most of our web site, these units are for two-phases of 120 volts. In North America, most homes get two lines of 120 volts and some devices in the home will use both lines to operate the device (pumps, hot tubs, water heaters, and others.) These devices will not work in countries with a single line of 220 volts coming into a home or building.

If you don't see what you are looking for, check back later or join our E-mail mailing list for overseas customers at:

Due to some regulation changes in the late 1990s by the European Commission, most X10 products are now not approved for European use. The EC regulations that govern X-10 is the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) directive. This directive came into force 1/1/96. EC approved modules will be coming on the market shortly. Since Europe is the largest market for 220 volt X10 modules, other regions of the world will most like have to wait for these revised modules.

Receiving modules and wall switches don't care if the frequency is 60Hz or 50Hz. They will automatically sync-up to the 50 or 60 Hertz. Transmitters are (somewhat) the opposite. Since they have no moving parts (excluding the code wheels and the little buttons) they are more forgiving of voltage. The 277v transmitters we sell perform quite well on lower voltages like 220v. With each reduced level of voltage there is a corresponding drop in output signal, but it usually insignificant and sufficient to do send the signal across the lines. X10 transmitter will work fine on your 220v, single phase "residential" installations, BUT its wires will not conform to the color codes there. I also doubt that they will fit wall boxes outside of North America.
