Enhance your laptop/notebook or desktop computer with this Dual eSATA II ExpressCard that allows for two eSATA II port connections from a single ExpressCard slot. It is the perfect solution for adding a high performance external hard drive to your laptop/notebook or desktop computer via an ExpressCard slot, sold separately. The real advantage to using an eSATA connection over USB of Firewire is that it allows for transfers up to 3 Gbps. Additionally it supports PCI Express bus and SATA II interface, 1-Lane 2.5Gbps PCI Express specification, RAID 0 & RAID 1, Native Command Queue (NCQ) , a slave SMBus interface, it is hot-plug capable, compliant with ATA 1.0a and ATA II 1.1, and compliant with eSATA35 and eSAT54 interface slots. It can be used with PCs using Windows 2000, XP or Vista, and will also work with Mac OSX.

What is eSATA?
The Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) computer bus has the primary function of transferring data (directly or otherwise) between the motherboard and mass storage devices (such as hard disk drives and optical drives). 'eSATA' standardized provides a variant of SATA meant for external connectivity.
What is an ExpressCard?
ExpressCard is a hardware standard replacing PC cards (also known as PCMCIA cards); it is a new technology that slots into a computer system to allow the addition of hardware capabilities. There are two types of the ExpressCard slots: ExpressCard slot/34 (34mm) and ExpressCard slot/54 (54mm). ExpressCard technology gives users the 'sealed box' computing benefits in a PC card form. Previously, to add hardware to a computer, it was necessary to open up the computer with a screwdriver to add the new card. With ExpressCard, you simply slot in the card to an existing expansion slot. This makes it easier to adapt to and helps to keep cost down. The ExpressCard has a maximum throughput of 2.0 Gbit/s through PCI Express and 480 Mbit/s through USB 2.0 dedicated for each slot, versus CardBus's shared 1.06 Gbps bandwidth.
