The Sony STR-DG2100 7.1 A/V receiver was engineered to be the entertainment hub for your HD experience. This receiver provides an "Audio for Video" solution which integrates the latest technologies to optimize sound as well as picture quality. The STR-DG2100 utilizes Faroudja DCDI Cinema Technology which upscales non-HD sources (VHS, DVD, etc.) to 1080p. In addition to video upscaling, this chipset corrects image jaggedness and reduces block noise resulting in beautiful, smooth High Definition images. As for audio, the Sony 7.1 Home Theater Surround Sound Receiver utilizes high grade components that provide effective heat dissipation and large amounts of power while maintaining precise sound quality. Sony's Xross Media Bar-inspired GUI allows you to use an icon-driven menu system which provides easy access to the receiver's most complicated functions. The STR-DG2100 7.1 A/V receiver will accept 1080/60p and 24p HD video formats, x.v.Color (xvYCC) and Deep Color while providing 3 HDMI connections. Sony's Digital Media Port makes this model iPod-ready (accessory sold separately) and features BRAVIA Theatre Sync technology for "One-Touch Play." Don't worry, Sony didn't forget about audio; this receiver is also capable of reproducing the latest audio formats from Dolby Labs (Dolby Digital +/Dolby TrueHD) and dts (dts High Resolution Audio and dts HD Master Audio).

The STR-DG2100 features 3 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) inputs, which are capable of accepting resolutions up to 1080p, offering the full video quality that Blu-ray Disc format can deliver.

    Latest Blu-ray Audio Formats: Over and above the excellent specifications of the Sony STR-DG1100 Receiver are new audio formats for Blu-ray discs: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, dts-HD Master Audio, and dts-HD High Resolution Audio. This superb home theater receiver assures that you'll enjoy all the audio performance that's possible from your Blu-ray HD discs.

    Linear PCM and Dolby audio: The STR-DG2100 offers full compatibility with the Blu-ray Disc format's linear PCM (uncompressed) output, producing up to eight channels of "high quality" audio reproduction. The STR-DG2100 will also have the ability to support the latest audio formats from Dolby Labs (Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD) and dts(dts HD).

    HDMI "Active Intelligence": The receiver can detect and receive the best possible video and audio signals from all connected devices - making connection and performance as simple as plugging in a single wire. Sony's HDMI "Active Intelligence" produces both audio and video through one HDMI cable (sold separately).

    xvYCC Color & Deep Color: The STR-DG2100 supports these new colors standards, now incorporated in HDMI 1.3 standard. Both extend the range of colors available, and will provide the best color viewing possible from Blu-ray discs.

    Faroudja DCDi Cinema Chipset Up-Scales to 1080p: This high-performance receiver incorporates an IC processor developed by Faroudja, and first used by Sony, which will up-scale and up-convert all video signals to 1080p via HDMI. This chipset corrects image jaggedness, reduces block noise, and reproduces true-to-original colors. The end result is a beautiful and smooth High Definition image.

    Xross Media Bar-Inspired Graphic User Interface: An on-screen menu system that simplifies the most complex operations of an A/V receiver for home theater applications. This advanced menu system incorporates icons, an easy to follow "tree" system, and a blending technique so users know exactly where they are amongst the various settings while still watching their main video source (up to 1080i). The menu includes access to Digital Media Port accessories (sold separately), the ability to assign HDMI inputs, and independent A/V Sync control for each input. It's simple. Just pick up the remote and a whole new experience will be revealed.

    Down Conversion: Component and S-video sources can be down-converted to lower resolution outputs, thus customizing video connectivity to home theater requirements from a single source. Also, this receiver can take HD sources from component video and down convert the signal for use with composite or S-Video outputs. This is ideal for distributing video through multiple rooms with fewer wires.

    Digital Cinema Auto Calibration: An ideal listening experience is only one button away. Simply place the included microphone in your listening position, push the calibration button, and speaker position, distance, and delays are automatically calibrated. Sony's Digital Signal Processing uses feedback between the microphone and receiver to optimize sound settings.

    Sirius and XM Connect-and-Play Ready: There's a whole world of digital radio at your fingertips. Connect an optional antenna for either Sirius and/or XM subscription service and enjoy the variety and quality of digital radio with the superior sound quality of this powerhouse receiver. In addition to stereo, you can enjoy 5.1 surround broadcasting. Sirius and XM radio are satellite radio services that provide pay-for-service radio, analogous to cable television.

    Portable Audio Enhancer: The 7.1 A/V Receiver is ideal for iPods and other portables. A powerful Digital Signal Processor expands the quality of sound from any connected device. Simplified front-side audio and video connections make it easy to play portables through the receiver.
