This interactive electricity and magnetic learning kit will prepare adults and children (ages 8 and over) to learn how magnets, electricity, electrical currents, and electromagnets affect basic everyday surroundings. It is an ideal teaching and learning tool for exposing and educating people on the relationship between magnets, power and electricity. The Electricity and Magnetic Combination Kit is a Learning Mates™ product that guides the user through the design and build of a compass, various electric circuits, power generation, electromagnetic power and using battery power to turn a generator into an electric motor. A colorful instruction booklet with diagrams and illustrations is included to make experimenting with magnets and electricity fun and easy to do. This product is also available as an Electricity Kit only, sold separately. Hands On ResearchIn testing the Electricity and Magnetic Combination Kit, I was particularly looking for ease of use and safety as this product is designed as a learning tool for anyone over the age of 8. As with the Electricity Kit, all of the items are color coded and each of the pieces fit together in a plug-in fashion or with wire connectors. On the electrical side, the project manual teaches you to use a battery power source to turn on a light, a fan and a speaker and control them in combination; additionally, you will learn to use a generator to create electricity by hand and use the battery power to turn the generator into an electric motor. Additionally, you will learn about magnetic polarity, how magnets are used to create a compass and electromagnetism. With the use of the included project manual, working with electricity and magnets was easier than I expected. On the safety side, there are clear instructions at the front of the project manual to maintain a safe working environment; and with the kit being powered by only two AA batteries, there is a minimal amount of current exposed.
