More Info

Avia II is an all-widescreen, all-multichannel update of the classic Avia Guide to Home Theater, incorporating dozens of new test patterns and audio test signals. Avia II also retains the live tutorial and setup instructions that made its predecessor so easy to use, and supplements those with information on the new HD technologies.
Avia's intuitive on-screen interface lets you easily explore and control the program using your DVD player's remote control. The main menu gives you easy access to all the topics of the Avia II DVD. Just select a subject area and you'll see a submenu of topics so you can skip ahead to only the information you want. Or, if you prefer, simply start from the beginning and have it run its full course.
Plus, a calibration menu lets you select tutorials and new, digitally synthesized audio signals and video patterns designed specifically for setting up and testing home theater systems. Use this section along with a sound pressure meter and the included red, green and blue color filters for testing and adjusting your system.
Avia II works on the NTSC standard, will not work on PAL, and is Region 0 (no region limits).
Does Avia II work on 1080i/720p?Avia II's test material is in widescreen, anamorphic standard-DVD format. In order to use the tests at 1080i/p or any other HD format, it would need to be passed through an upconverter that can either be freestanding or incorporated into the screen or player, but signal accuracy cannot be guaranteed through such a conversion. On the other hand, any inaccuracies introduced would equally be applied to any movies or other program material similarly upconverted, so all of the basic test signals and most of the advanced test patterns should remain usable and may provide useful tests of HD-screen and upconverting-player performance as intended. An HD version of Avia II, optimized for Blu-ray or HD-DVD playback into digital displays, is under development.
Note: Only unopened, factory-sealed DVDs may be returned for refund/credit.
