Using three DVDs, the course is broken down into four parts. The first explains the basic principles of residential networks, including voice, data, broadband RF, and distributed audio networks. This section also explains DTV off-air and satellite products and systems, cable and connector types for each network, and distribution system components. Part two begins in a 5100 square-foot custom home and covers system planning and design for each network type, creating the necessary documentation, and how to solve various signal distribution and integration problems.
The video training course's third part takes you through the installation of all rough-in components and installing and protecting all cable for the job. It demonstrates proper labeling, tie-down, and protection techniques. The final part covers the system trim-out, configuration and testing and includes cable termination and testing, installing the security and home automation systems, audio equipment, data network equipment, structured cabling components, off-air and satellite equipment. Each network is configured and tested to make sure it meets design specifications.
In addition to the DVDs, the course comes with a detailed 110-page workbook that tracks the material in the video and contains additional reference material. A 50-question exam is included for self-measurement of your understanding of the material taught in the course.
