Essential Info

Programmable thermostats come in handy, but central heating doesn't provide the same cozy warmth of a gas fireplace. The Programmable Fireplace Thermostat/Remote adds the convenience of a programmable thermostat to your gas fireplace. Program the system to turn on at specific times on specific days of the week, or set the timer to enjoy the fireplace for a limited time. You'll even be able to use the included RF remote control to manage the unit from up to 20 feet away!

The Programmable Fireplace Thermostat/Remote system was developed to provide a safe, reliable, and user-friendly remote control system for a gas fireplace. The system can be operated using the thermostat or manually from the remote. Additional features include a child-proof lock. This same system is also available with a Battery-Operated Receiver for installations without a nearby 110v circuit. If you don't need the programming feature, try the Fireplace Thermostat/Remote instead; this unit has all of the features of the programmable system except the scheduled heating.

A Wireless Fireplace Thermostat/Remote is also available. Even if you don't need a programmable thermostat attached to your fireplace, you can still enjoy controlling it remotely with the Battery-Operated Fireplace Remote. Just getting started in installing your fireplace? Try the Natural Gas Valve w/Hi/Lo Remote, a full safety pilot system that connects to your gas line.

I installed two of these. I could not get the receiver to work until I reversed the wiring from the heater's pilot thermocouple to the TP TP/TH connectors, then it was fine. The instructions fail to mention until after you need to know it that the receiver must be reenergized each time you switch it to "remote" from "on" or "off". Tuning the receiver to respond to the transmitter is a fiddle (a tiny screw down a dark hole). The communication fails if the transmitter is too high off the floor. Do not bank on twenty feet. Installing the second went a little faster! Smarthome sent the wrong model by mistake, but were quick and helpful to correct this. Summary: if you have to have a wireless control go for it, if you just think it would be nice, it may not be worth the effort.
