We loved the touchless trash can BUT the gear that opens and closes the lid broke off and to replace it, the compant wants $40 for a new lid... We are looking at purchasing a different manufacturer's can that also has the ac/dc option, saving on batteries.

I purchased this can. For the first month it worked great. After than, the lid opens, closes and then opens again...stays that way unless I close it manually. I have replaced the batteries...still does the same thing.

The trash can works well! In addition to opening and closing automatically, it also has a special button that allows you to open the lid and keep it open for those times when you know you will be throwing a lot of things away at once, such as if you are throwing away a series of paper towels after cleaning up a mess. Then there is a button that allows you to close the lid once you are done. A friend of mine liked it so much, that she asked me to order one for her. The only minor problem is that I had problems placing the battery cover back on after initially loading the batteries in the compartment. The batteries looked like they were completely seated inside, but I had to press down a tad more and then the cover was able to be closed. Overall, I like this product and would recommend it.
