Essential Info

Racor's Ceiling Storage Heavy Lift creates 16 square feet of additional storage space without compromising floor or wall space. The lift gives you a convenient storage solution for all of those bulky items that take up so much space on the floor, such as seasonal storage, boxes, totes, outdoor furniture, large tools, tires, or just about anything else you can think of. Made of steel construction, the lift has a unique pulley system that easily loads and lifts up to 250 pounds of storage items to the ceiling and lock securely in place. The Ceiling Storage Lift easily lowers 8 feet from the ceiling when you want to retrieve or add items. Raise and lower using a hand crank or attach your power drill. It has everything you need to store large items the safe and easy way without your feet ever leaving the ground.

Takes a bit of innovation to install. Most. Difficult part was locating the beams to install the lag screws. I also had to drill some extra holes and tweak some of the J hooks. I had an old 1/2 inch drill which worked perfectly to lift the platforms. I lower them by hand. Functionality I would give it a 5, but the assembly and install process makes it a 4 at best.

I am interested in purchasing one unit for my new home. However, instead of using manual cranking lever, I was thinking of attaching electric drive similar to what ANTHONY -- mississauga, ON did on his unit. Can anyone help me with the type and size of gear motor that I can use? How difficult would it be to couple it with the original gear box?
    DAVID -- gardnerville, NV   4/19/2012
The lift arrived in a timely matter. Everything went together nicely. There was one thing that bothered me and it was the way the rails attached to the wire platform. The clamps allow the rails to roll inward. This still did not make it any weaker, but it should lay flat to maintain max strength. I did re drilled the hole locations and solved this problem. I would recommend this product to a friend.

I found it easy to install and operate. Great way to keep things out of the way but handy when you need them. I actually took it one step further and with a small gear motor, automated the raising and lifting of the platform. The additional gearing in the gearbox adds to the resistance of the unit back driving and coming down on its own. Love this item.

    Fast and excellent service

LOVE IT!!!!! I am a single woman who enjoys decoration for the holidays especially Christmas I have always had to climb a ladder to get down the dozen or so heavy totes one at a time. With the lift I crank it down and unload it without twisting and turning on a ladder 6 ft in the air and without the fear of falling. When finished I then crank it up and out of the way. It was very easily installed and easy to understand. this is my first year but I already have family and neighorbors asking about it. Great product. Kathie
    RANDY -- florence, KY   9/20/2010
Lag bolts cheap and are really kinda dangerous when you put it up and think it is secure. If you let the brackets go and the bolt snaps....Very bad. J hooks allow the bottom brace to twist. That is a bad design. Other than that the product in an 11 out of 10.
    JOSEPH N -- parrish, FL   5/21/2010
easy to install and adds storage space for those not often used items.
GEORGE -- laguna niguel, CA   4/17/2010
Very good product, only complaint is that assembly instructions are quite inadequate. required a great deal of intuition, etc. A non-handy person would have had a lot of difficulty
    MIKE -- seattle, WA   2/15/2010
Love these! They are a great size and easy to use. They were one of the first things I purchased for the new home after we fell in love with them at our last home. Install is a little of a pain until you get the hang of it. Important to get the spacing between the 2 main supports correct. Also important to make sure it will not be in the way of the garage door (when it is open).
    JOSE -- decatur, GA   12/3/2009
Great storage ... A bit tricky to install in our space, but we utimately got it. Putting in a second one.
JAMES -- oklahoma city, OK   9/6/2009
This is an excellent device that functions as advertised and is actually heavy duty enough to hold significant amount of material.
    ROBERT -- elizabeth, PA   5/31/2009
The best! This was $50.00 less here than other stores! Great and easy to install!!!
    ggalb -- Canada   2/20/2009
The product looks fabulous;however, I have a 10'3 ceiling similar to other people having a ceiling over 8 feet. This may be a silly question, but why couldn't a person replace the suspension cables with longer ones to acccommodate higher ceilings? If this could be the case, then I'm in!
    GERALD -- livonia, MI   9/25/2008
Unit seems well made, works ok once mounted. The instructions were sketchy; unless one is a fairly "handy" person, this would be tough to put up. Some parts didn't fit well, requiring redrilling a couple of holes (in the cable-winder rod) to make them fit.
    BRIAN -- phillipsburg, NJ   8/31/2008
The product was everything I was looking for.
    Michael -- springhill tennessee   5/17/2008
Just a heads up it is advertised to lift 12 foot, this is not true it is 8foot. They are working on getting this changed on the web sight. I had to send mine back due to 10 foot ceilings. I have purchased other products from this company, great stuff. Will be ordering other products I am sure. This product is also great 3 of my friends have them and I wish I did to.
    BILL -- tacoma, WA   5/9/2008
It is a great addition to my garage. I was able to put it up myself in about 31/2 hours total. Thanks for great product.
    Jeff -- denver, Colorado   5/6/2008
Installation: 9 days 3 hours had to wait on a new part The Racor Heavy Lift is a bit of a pain to install and some of the instructions are vague at best. I found that after installing the brackets at exactly 48 apart, the center spindle was 2 too long. Cutting it voids warranty. I''''''''''''''''ve read that some people have been able to install the brackets at 46 1/2 snugly; which suggests that there''''''''''''''''s a bit of a QA issue. I contacted Racor and was sent a new spindle 8 days later which installed perfectly. Test fit everything and don''''''''''''''''t get too fussed when you assemble the bottom rack. I found that assembling it on the last step 2'''''''''''''''' off the ground was so much easier. Overall I''''''''''''''''m happy with the product. It does what it promises.
    Bill -- Tacoma   5/5/2008
Directs were pretty easy. I was able to install alone in about 3 1/2 hours total. Works like a champ. I want more of them for my small garage.
