Essential Info

Save money and reduce maintenance with your R-30 sized recessed lighting, without losing the flexibility of your existing dimmable circuits. This fluorescent dimmable flood light is as bright as a 50 watt incandescent flood light, but uses only 15 watts. It also includes special circuitry that allows it to work with mechanical dimmers, which is a major limitation of conventional compact fluorescent bulbs. Produces 500 lumens at full brightness.

Please note: Dimmers which utilize more than 3 levels of control may cause it to react unfavorably. If the bulb is set at too low of a level, it may shutoff. Ideally, the dimming levels should be set at 50%, 75% and 100%; no lower than 40%.

Get all the light you're accustomed to, yet only using one third of the energy! Conserving has never been easier than with these fluorescent light bulbs that are three times as efficient as standard, incandescent bulbs. Still, they emit a soft glow similar to that of incandescent lights, so your home won't have that harsh, washed-out look. Average life span for these bulbs is 8,000 hours — more than five times standard 1,500-hour incandescent bulbs.

Won't Interfere With Your Home Automation System
These are also among the few fluorescent light bulbs on the market that won't cause problems with your X10 home automation system. The Smarthome technical staff has searched far and wide, high and low, and everywhere else in between for fluorescent bulbs that are X10-compatible, and these are among the very few that won't inject any noise in or near the critical X10 zero crossing point. For X10 operation, we recommend using non-dimming appliance modules, like the ApplianceLinc, although lamp modules will work if they are not dimmed.

We also offer a wide variety of fluorescent bulb styles: the Mini Bulb-Shaped Fluorescent Bulb, the Mini-Spiral Fluorescent Bulb, the 3-Way Compact Fluorescent Bulb, the Odor Eliminating Fluorescent Bulb, the 23 Watt Mini-Twist Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb, the 7 Watt Flame Shape Med Base and the Dimmable Spiral Fluorescent Bulb.

    PETER -- portsmouth, NH   3/21/2008
I bought several of these new dimmable fluorescent lights and all of them failed (two right out of the box). Great service in trying to fix my problems with this obviously "not ready for prime time" product. Thanks for giving me a credit for next purchase of $42.XX. --Peter D.-- I have always received great service (with thousands of $$ purchases total) from Smarthome.
    SANDRA -- gainesville, FL   11/26/2007
I bought for outdoor. Seems to be for indoor.
HENRY -- la crescenta, CA   11/24/2007
Product took a long time to deliver but when it finally arrived it proved excellent.
GABOR -- white plains, NY   11/24/2007
I ordered 2 of these lights to test them. They share the same dimmer. One of them does not light up unless it's switched on with full power. Even when it lights up it shuts down after dimming. Lighting up these bulbs also does something to the whole electrical network in the house. Other regular lights are flickering while these bulbs are lighting up. There are several fluorescent lights used in the house. I use energy saving bulbs for 10+ years. I always missed the dimming function, so I wanted to test this product. Unfortunately technology is not there yet to have dimmable fluorescent for an affordable price. I do not recoomend this product for any dimmable installation.
    ELIZABETH -- columbus, OH   11/23/2007
The base of the bulb is so wide, it sticks out a couple of inches beyond the edge of the light fixture.
Daniel Lucas -- San Francisco   8/21/2009
I bought nearly 30 of these for an addition I did on my house. Nearly half have failed some right out of the box most with very litle use. They have been an expensive and troublesome way of saving money. Not ready for market yet.
    ROGELIO -- saltillo, XX   8/1/2007
Good light, even that is a low w product
DR RICHARD J -- mount vernon, IL   7/13/2007
    Excellent product
    RICHARD -- livermore, CA   6/28/2007
Did not work with my dimmer; in the proces of being returned
DR RICHARD J -- mount vernon, IL   6/27/2007
    excellant product
    DAVID J. -- lisle, NY   6/20/2007
Very bright for the wattage. Dimmable function works nicely without generating undo heat. Excellent product.
    BRENDAN -- brooklyn, NY   5/16/2007
Good product. Nice and bright. Well packed. Thanks.
    RONALD -- whitefield, NH   5/16/2007
Excellent product and definitely more energy efficient than the floods we were using. I am most surprised and pleased that the brightness level is better than expected and, actually, more pleasing and more effective than the 75w floods we had previously. I anticipate electric bill savings in excess of $600/yr!
    EDWARD -- winchester, MA   5/13/2007
Great product. I am saving $20 a month on electricity. Superb customer service.
    ANDREW -- kensington, MD   2/15/2007
lights seem to fluctuate on their own and do not have a large range from brightest to dimmest.
    JEFFERSON -- seattle, WA   2/14/2007
dimming is not very smooth and flickers at the low end. Technology is not quite there yet.
JIM -- nevada city,, CA   8/17/2006
These lights are very bright, fit in the fixture and the emited light has good color balance. The have good dimning range and contribute little heat to the room. In our off grid home they reduced our energy consumption from 300 watts to 90 watts in our six bulb strip lighting fixture for a savings of 330%.
    GLENN -- baltimore, MD   5/10/2006
It is nice to be able to dimm fluorescent lights although they do not dim as smoothly or as fully as incadescents.
    Ian -- Southern California   11/16/2005
Note that the FLOOD LIGHT 15W DIMMABLE FLUORESCENT (903240D) does NOT work in conventional X-10 wall switch module controlled fixtures. Many of the dimmable CF's (including Philips) are like this due to the X-10 wall switch design which requires a clean electrical path "thru" the light bulb even when it is off. These dimmables DO work ok in regular plug-in lamp modules. Interestingly, they do work with a wall switch module if an incadecesent light bulb is also in the fixture, but then that deafeats the purpose of the CF. Note I have not tried this product with any of Smarthome brand wall switch dimmers.
