The MAINstageHD from soundmatters is truly a sonic marvel. I was originally only impressed with movie sound through this small set-top box, but not my main interest, music listening. Discouraged, I added high end bookshelf speakers to listen to my music collection. Luckily, I gave it one last listen in a different position (about waist high, or ear level when sitting) and was completely struck by the clarity, defined, but full bass (even without the SUBstage100 subwoofer, though adding this on will shake your house!) Everything was set up in minutes. Audiophiles do not let the easy setup or small size turn you away. Soundmatters has produced a technological wonder in sound that is both great for those that can't be bothered with extensive audio design or just don't have the "right room" for surround sound, as well as the discerning ears of those who revel at the thought of such endeavors. Sound balance, clarity, volume, bass, and dialogue for movies will amaze you. As well, the HD model (which boats great improvements over the original model) has a rear channel out to change this virtual set into true 5.1 surround. I am in no way related to the company that sells this product. I almost made a mistake returning it. I'm so glad I did not.
