Well duh, it's gonna stick out of a 2X4 wall about 2 inches. Actually, that's a plus, because the ventilation provided by the slits will help cool the mux and router.

I would have liked it to extend further

Some assembly required but provides needed space for Media Panel.

Unfortunately, the extender brackets are not really "extenders", the would more accurayely be described as a frame to allow an additional depth, while also making the height and width larger. I had a precut opening in the drywall to exactly fit the 28 inch panels with no allowance for the additional height and width. As a result, i received a return authorization and am sending the "extender" brackets back. Although I was disapointed with the product (not your fault), the service was excellent.
