Designed to provide updated functionality and styling in homes with existing M&S and NuTone 3- and 4-wire intercom systems, the Retrofit Intercom Master Station is a whole-house music communications system designed to replace those older systems and is engineered to run on their existing wires; a qualified electrician must run a 120V AC line to the retrofit transformers.
The Retrofit Intercom System consists of three major components: this Master Station, Room and Patio Stations, and Door Stations. It will work with up to nine installed Room Stations in individual zones, 15 Room Stations in shared zones on a 4-wire (M&S Systems retrofit) installation and 13 Room Stations in shared zones on a 3-wire (NuTone retrofit) installation. In addition, the Retrofit Master Intercom will work with two weather-resistant Patio Stations in 3-wire or 4-wire installations, and up to three Door Stations, exterior intercom speakers with doorbells that function from your home's entrances. All of these components are sold separately.
The Master Station gives you control over the system's intercom and music capabilities. From the Master Station, you can preset eight FM and eight AM stations, and you can also set the system to turn music on and off automatically at a predetermined time. You'll be able to determine the settings of each Room Station and Patio Station from the Master Station, including intercom only, intercom and radio/music, off and monitor, each of which has different capabilities regarding communication among themselves and with the Door Stations. The Master Station also sets the scan mode for each of the Room and Patio Stations, allowing them to scan through the music sources (AM, FM, CD and auxiliary, such as an external stereo system) and either scan through the preset radio stations or through all strong stations. System volume, loudness, treble, bass, and balance can be controlled from the Master Station, and depending on connectivity, you can even control a single function of your security/home automation, such as releasing a door lock, setting off an alarm, or turning on lights.
The Retrofit Intercom System's stations are designed to fit into your existing enclosures, so removing the rough-ins from the room and patio stations isn't necessary. Sold separately, retrofit finish-out frames make installation easy by eliminating the need to repair drywall, and their plastic frames are paintable, so they'll blend seamlessly in with your décor. Choose the finish-out frame for the Master Intercom only or the Finishout Frame Combination if you choose to install the 6-disc CD player that goes with the Retrofit Intercom System.
