Essential Info
If you have a multi-room audio system, you can control the volume of speakers in individual rooms by installing wall-mounted volume adjusters in each zone. If you are running more than one pair of speakers from the same amplifier speaker outputs, this impedance matching volume control will allow you to compensate for the impedance drop of using multiple sets of speakers in parallel. The 80-Watt Impedance Matching Stereo Speaker Volume Control wires between your amplifier/receiver and the speakers, letting you adjust the speaker volume with the soft touch 12 step rotary attenuation knob. Smaller size and removable terminal blocks that accept up to 14-Gage wire make this volume controller an easy install. This product comes with the convenience of white, ivory and almond decora inserts, trim plates and volume knobs.
Please Note: This volume control is NOT designed for one pair of speakers. Depending on your configuration, and whether or not you are using a 4-Ohm or 8-Ohm amplifier and/or speakers, this volume control can handle from two pairs to 32 pairs, of speakers.

Normally, most amplifiers can easily drive between four and 16 ohms of speakers. With each speaker added to an amplifier, the impedance level drops by half. If you hook two 8-ohm speakers up to an amplifier in parallel, the amplifier actually sees an equivalent resistance of 4-ohms. Hooking three pairs to one amplifier, the equivalent impedance is 2.6 ohms, which is too low for most amplifiers to operate properly. For the engineers in the crowd, the most commonly used formula in the speaker industry is 1/R(total) = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + etc. (R is the resistance of a speaker).
When this Impedance Matching Volume control is used between a set of speakers and an amplifier, the volume control can present a higher impedance level for the amplifier to see. Once all the higher impedance volume controls are added up, you're back to a safe level for your amplifier.
Use this volume control in parallel with up to 16 pairs of speakers. You can set the unit to provide an impedance load of 16, 32, 64 ohms, etc. At 16 ohms you can wire 2 pairs of speakers in parallel and still have an 8-ohm load for your amplifier. At 64 ohms you can wire 8 pairs of speakers and provide a 4-ohm load and so on. A jumper on the volume control allows easy setting of the volume control's impedance level.
The volume control has a frequency response of 20 - 20,000Hz response and supports up to 80 watts RMS per channel. The volume control has 12 volume steps and the last position is a mechanical off so no sound will come from your speakers when the volume control is turned off. Accepts up to 14-gauge wire and includes a trim plate.
