  • Thrill your friends and family with this unbelievable transducer
  • Get the full bass sensation of a powerful subwoofer, but without cluttering the room with a bulky black box

Essential Info

A must-have item for the ultimate home theater setup. This tactile sound transducer adds a level of sensaround that is unbelievable. Experience it once and you will agree that these are a requirement in every home theater. The tactile transducer is mounted under the wood floor beneath your seating area. It literally shakes the floor during explosive low-frequency viewing moments to add an incredible sense of realism. This effect is achieved without requiring an excessively high bass volume, which would be the only other way to even come close to getting this effect using a subwoofer. The effect also works well with heavy bass music and video games.

In addition to adding bass you can feel, the Clark Tactile Transducer also increases your enjoyment of all mid-range and higher frequencies as well. In a demonstration at our offices, we listened to a very good stereo system playing some great Led Zeppelin tracks. After becoming accustomed to the music, the Clark transducers were switched on. There certainly was physical movement accompanying each bass note, along with enhanced detail - we could actually hear Jimmy Page's fingers sliding up and down his guitar strings. The most shocking part of this demo came when the transducers were turned off - where did the music go?

Incredible Force that Moves Your Floor
The transducer uses a huge 20 oz. neodymium magnet structure to produce a whopping 2.8 pounds of force per watt. At the input limit of 135 watts RMS each transducer is capable of exerting over 370 lbs. of force on the bottom of your floor. The transducers are so effective that they're used in aircraft (F14, F15, F16), Apache helicopter and Bradley tank simulators.

    You'll Need an Amp
To get the most out of a transducer it is recommended that it be connected to its own dedicated amplifier of at least 100 watts. The amp should have its own volume control so you can tune the effect relative to the audio level. The hi-fi quality of the amp is not critical, so relatively inexpensive amps can be used.

Can Also be Built Into Theater Seating
If you do not have a wood floor or do not have access beneath the floor, instructions are given on how to build a raised wood platform. The other alternative is to install the units in the frame of your seat. If your budget allows, the manufacturer actually recommends installing transducers both under the floor and in the seats.

Great for Outdoor Applications? You Bet!
The tactile transducer is actually a full-range 10Hz-17kHz driver. This feature gives the transducer some interesting alternative applications. Installed under an outdoor deck, the transducer will actually turn the deck into an omnidirectional speaker. It can also be installed on spas and swimming pools to provide sound that can be heard underwater.

The tactile transducers are sold individually. Each transducer produces an effect on the floor that can be felt strongly in a 6 to 10 ft. radius. This is usually enough to cover the seating area in the average home theater. For larger area coverage add more units as desired. Rated at 135W RMS. 10 to 17,000 Hz response.

We had failure of 4 units in 30 days in the media room we installed so we replaced them with 8 units Buttkicker LFE Electromagnetic Transducer with several amps. The media room makes you feel like your on the plane, train, or aircraft carrier. We had installed 4 of these units only to have to replace all 4 units within 30 days after they stopped working and were smoking. We had the expert that taught me to make sure we correctly installed them and they were. The average person that installs speakers of this 4 ohm type do not have them correctly installed. The average person is use to installing 8 ohm speakers which are a little different. If the units ohm's output is not matched to the speakers ohm's input it can cause problems or failure I have been told.

The metal bolt connection you refer to is the mounting fastener. The transducer has to be attached to something, like the framework of your couch or the joists under your chair to work. Did you read the installation instructions?

If you are looking for a powerful bass experience, I recommend you look elsewhere. I''''ve purchased two of the TST329-Gold models, both from Smarthome, and both have failed miserably in my application. My first clue *should* have been the 139W power rating. Notice that this shaker is completely plastic. Plastic is NOT a thermal conductor, so if you feed your shaker 139W where does the heat go? Into smoke, in my case. Right out the little black vent in the top of the device.. I assume the metal bolt connection in the bottom is supposed to act as a heat-sink, but in my case, that hasn''''t been true. On my first failed unit, I noted only a 2C rise on the mounting stud, with no heatsinking, when the unit failed. On my second go round, I mounted a large heatsink directly to the base of the unit, and detected no temp rise, even after my let the smoke out event occurred. I did notice that as long as I kept the duty cycle very, very low. Like well under 1%, the unit did last longer- But that 30 seconds of rumbling aircraft carrier I so enjoy, kills these things every time. On the plus side: These devices have the highest shaking efficiency of any sensors I''''ve tried ie less power applied vs. shaking force, and also they have by far, the widest frequency range of a tactile feedback sensor in this case I was able to reproduce, instrumented, 10K, which is astonishing. I suspect if I had derated this sensor to say, 10-20 W max applied power, then it would have been ideal for my application. In order to do that though, I would have to buy four devices, to actually get the shake capacity advertised for one device. That would make this by far, the least dollar effective solution available on the market. My 2 cents, your mileage may vary.

The transducer was a really neat product but I thought it would do more. I didn't know how strong it would compare to my subs in the beedroom. You all have lots of neat stuff anf I will buy from you again.
