Essential Info

If you have speakers or TVs in a separate room from your stereo, VCR, or cable box, you know how inconvenient it is to adjust the volume, change DSS channels, radio stations, etc. Infrared (IR) remotes do not work through walls. You have to walk into the other room any time you want to make a change. But with the Powermid™ you can control your equipment through walls up to 100 feet away.

    How it Works - Just point your existing IR remote at the Powermid Transmitter. This device converts the IR signal into a radio frequency (RF) signal that can pass through walls. In the room where your audio/video equipment is located, the receiver converts the RF signal back into IR and transmits it to your equipment. The transmitter even blinks a red light to indicate that it is receiving your command.

    Expansion Units Available - If you need to control equipment from more than one room, add a single Powermid Transmitter. If your equipment is in more than one location, add a second Powermid Receiver. All the Powermid products work on the same frequency, so expansion is easy. If your equipment is in a closed cabinet, an optional miniature extension IR emitter that plugs into the back of the receiver can be wired into the cabinet to change the channels from another room.

    I purchased these to replace a similar RCA set. However, I found that, while they worked well to see the IR signal from the remote and pass the signal from the receiver to the equipment, the RF range between the two was too poor for my needs. I located the items about 30 feet apart (through 1 wall) and could hardly ever get it to pass the signal. If I moved the transmitter to about 20 feet away, it worked flawlessly. Could have been some RF interference from something, but I don't know what it could have been. The RCA unit worked fine in the exact same installation. Bottom line, it did not work for me.

    These are solid units but I found the tranmitter will randomly will pick up interference and need a little reorientation. Just a little twist to the right or left would fix it. I'm used to a rock solid wired IR system, this was a little disapointing. Works just fine 98% of the time. I'll be pulling more wires.

    Working great. Definitely needed the IR emitters as I wouldn't have been able to get a direct signal to the receiver. Notice that the transmitters don't always work when you first power them up. After a few transmissions, works just fine. Way better than putting in a volume control knob and losing all that power.
