Different brands of in-wall speakers may look the same externally, but they sure don't sound the same. The BIC Venturi VI-38 3-Way In-Wall Speaker sounds phenomenal and is very reasonably priced. It has a good clean sound with tremendous bass response. This speaker has a rich smooth sound that is very easy on the ears. Bass response and clarity easily surpasses that of free-standing speakers in its price range.

    More Info

    This in-wall architectural speaker from BIC is a three-way speaker system with increased power handling and low-end response. Its 1" titanium swivel tweeter is center-mounted in woofer and provides frequencies beyond audible range. The tweeter swivels to direct sound towards listeners. Both tweeter and midrange speakers have adjustment controls to tailor sound to the listening environment.

    The 8" Poly/Carbon woofer is mounted to a massive magnet structure that contributes to the deepest bass. Use the optional Rough-in Kit for pre-construction mounting. You can even paint the grille to match your furnishings.

    Installation is simple. Cut a rectangular hole in the drywall (template is provided). Connect wires. Insert the rectangular rear bracket into the hole at an angle. Straighten speaker and tighten screws. The metal rear bracket clamps the speaker tightly to the drywall to produce a very rigid acoustically sound fitting. Rough-in kits are for use with new construction, and replace the rear metal bracket with a frame that is mounted to studs.

I remember the challenge of painting the grills as a previous poster noted -- what I did is: install the speaker in the wall, remove the grill then masked the inside of the speaker to paint the speaker frame. For the grill itself I used very little paint on the brush, a light dabbing motion, and if some holes did fill up I used a wet/dry vac to draw in the excess paint from the inside of the speaker grill before the paint in the holes dried.
