Essential Info

IR signal distribution systems make it possible to control components without line-of-sight access to them, through cabinet doors or even in other rooms of your home. But the stick-on IR emitters that deliver your IR signals to the components will occasionally allow external IR signals to pass through or leak past, sometimes even affecting other components in your system. This situation is easily remedied by attaching a Mouse Emitter Shield Cover onto the problem Xantech mouse emitter shell. Xantech stick-on IR emitters and hardwired IR signal distribution systems are sold separately.

The Mouse Emitter Shield Cover is a black (IR opaque) shield that fits over both the Xantech Mouse Emitter shell and the IR sensor window of a controlled component, preventing unwanted external IR signals from passing through it or leaking past it. The Mouse Emitter Shield Cover also prevents IR from the Mouse Emitter from radiating backward into the IR sensors of other components. It is especially useful for zone-controlled applications where you want the equipment to be controlled only by the Mouse Emitter fastened over the component's IR sensors.

Since the adhesive tape covers the entire backing of the shield, the Mouse Emitter Shield Cover can be trimmed to fit closely over the equipment's IR sensor window if desired.

These are very nice IR Shield Covers and THEY DO STAY STUCK ON. The only problem I had is that the IR Emitters from Universal Remote Control (URC), that come with the Remotes, are TOO BIG to fit under these. So, I had to use the Xantech Designer Emitters instead because they have their own IR Shield Covers that do fit on their Emitters. Unfortunately, I called URC and they do not make or sell IR Emitter Covers for their own IR Emitters, which should be corrected.

Very helpful - served the intended purpose with some drawbacks - however not made of flexible material and adhesive does not adhere to some equipment surfaces. For this price I expected this to be both soft/pliable material and I expected the adhesive to be functional on a wide variety of surfaces.

These shield covers do not fit the smarthome brand emitters, found this out the hard way. Make sure the emitters are the right size before ordering.

This product is too large and ugly to put on the front of my equipment. Painting the emitters with black nail polish works great. The packaging is also poor and two of the emitters arrived bent.

These work, and look a lot better than electrical tape. The adhesive is very weak, though, and mine started falling off after a few days. A bit of double-sided tape fixed it up, with a bit of black marker around the edge to cover the white. Of course, if I was going to do the home-grown thing, I would have just used black tape. So, overall I'd say I probably would buy them again, but set your expectations a bit lower and keep some tape and markers on hand for the job.
