Overview

  • Ramping volume and/or preset level adjustments
  • Control multiple power amplifiers from a single preamp
  • Adds remote volume control to a non-remote component

Essential Info

Whole-house audio systems provide stereo sound in each connected room without the added expense of purchasing multiple stereo receivers and CD players. Now you can control the volume in each individual room with the Remote Gain Control Module, which permits line-level gain control of audio power amplifiers in multiroom installations, when highest sound quality is desired. The Remote Gain Control Module is also an ideal product to add IR remote volume control to a stereo receiver or integrated amplifier that was built without it. The IR Programmer Remote is required for setting up and controlling the Remote Gain Control Module and is sold separately.

What's Included

  • Remote Gain Control Module
  • Power supply
  • Instructions
  • More Info

The Remote Gain Control Module responds to 16 IR commands, including volume up/down ramping, 12 fixed levels, and mute on and off. The 12 preset levels are ideal for setting up audio scenes for parties or in-home dining. To control multiple sources, the modules can be "daisy-chained," although it is recommended that this practice be limited to six modules.

If so desired, a 1-Zone Connecting Block is used so that other products can be controlled as well as the Remote Gain Control Module. For components behind closed doors, try adding a Micro Link IR Receiver, which can also plug into the 1-Zone Connecting Block for local control of the source equipment.

The Remote Gain Control Module may also be used in any application where IR remote control of gain is desired, such as between the pre-out and main-in jacks of integrated amplifiers or receivers that were built without remote control. The IR Programmer Remote commands are "taught" to learning devices and passed to the Remote Gain Control Module's IR "IN" and "G" terminals via Xantech IR Receivers, Keypads and Connecting Blocks (sold separately). Flanges, along with the supplied screws, permit easy mounting to flat surfaces.

"Works flawlessly. I have 6 of these controlling the line level inputs to a AudioControl 1250 Whole House Amp. At first, I programmed each one to respond to a different code group and put them all on a common IR pathway. That worked. No problem. Then I decided to put each RGC11 on a discreet IR path by assigning each one to a specific port on my remote control's RF extender Harmony 890Pro Remote. Either way, this unit does what it's supposed to do. You can set volume by sending discreet volume levels 1-6 I believe or by ramping up or down. There's Mute On and Mute Off. I use the Level 3 command when powering up devices. This passes sufficient line level to wake the amp up on a specific channel since the amp automatically powers down each channel when line level activity ceases. These commands are sufficient to control a whole house audio system. I like the RGC11 so much I'm trying to find other uses for it in my system so I can buy more." - teeinep - Northwest Arkansas
