By converting IR information to serial ASCII text through the Global Caché GC-IRE IR Extender (sold separately), IR can now be considered a new input method for digitally controlled installations.

The Xantech-to-GC-IRE IR Converter Cable is used to connect a Xantech or SpeakerCraft IR output to the GC-IRE IR Extender. These IR emitter output voltages are converted to the proper levels to meet the IR input requirements for the Global Caché GC-IRE. The IR Extender then translates IR signals to serial ASCII text, which can the be read by a PC or GC-100 Network Adapter via the RS232 serial port.
Plug the 3.5mm stereo jack into a Xantech or SpeakerCraft distribution box emitter output and the other end into the GC-IRE. The GC-IRE is responsible for filtering out noise and providing good IR commands before being converted to serial, comma-delimited ASCII text.
The Xantech-to-GC-IRE IR Converter Cable is optically isolated to ensure circuit isolation and to avoid noise and ground loop issues found when systems are powered by multiple sources. When used with the GC-IRE, this converter cable requires no power supply and supports the full IR frequency range from 30 kHz to 500 kHz. When extensions cables are needed for longer runs, to avoid high-frequency degradation, they should not be used between the GC-IRE and Xantech-to-GC-IRE IR Converter Cable.
