The Surfboard Voice Activated Home Theater Universal Remote Control lets you control the volume, change the channels, or turn on the TV by the sound of your voice using a state of the art voice recognition and voice response system that works right out of the box with any TV, DVD, cable, or satellite system. A revolutionary HELP system uses friendly voice prompts that will talk you through every step of setup and command training, eliminating the usual challenge for non-technical people to set up a remote control for their individual requirements. While the best feature is the ability to use voice control, this sleek stylistic remote can still be operated via your hand using large, ergonomic buttons that eliminate the bewildering clutter of rarely used buttons normally found on other universal remote controls. A patent-pending Smart Source™ technology further reduces the number of buttons and simplifies operation by intelligently knowing whether to send commands to the TV or to the cable/satellite box. This remote was developed by Innotech Systems based on intensive study of user interaction with remote controls and industry-leading experience in developing advanced-technology voice-operated, voice response, and conventional remote controls to produce a modern, efficient product that will last for years to come. Learning New Codes
While the library of devices in the Surfboard remote is extensive, it is not possible to support every new television, cable, and satellite box because new devices enter the market all the time. The Surfboard remote contains an advanced IR learner that allows you to add to existing codes or completely program a new set of buttons. You can easily learn the code from the original equipment remote control using the user-friendly voice-prompting interactive help system.
Training the Voice Operation System
The Surfboard comes with five pre-programmed (speaker independent) commands: Power, Channel up, Channel down, Previous, and Favorite. If you'd prefer, you can replace the pre-programmed commands with up to 12 of your own. The voice operation system can even be trained to associate channel numbers with your voice. For example, instead of saying a channel number, you can simply use such voice commands as "HBO" or "ESPN" or "surf."
Voice Response
A voice-response system tells users what button they have pushed, eliminating guesswork and minimizing the usual difficulty associated with using a new remote control in a dark room. The voice response may easily be turned on and off.
Operating Time
The factory-set listen time is set to 10 minutes, but can be extended to 1 hour, 4 hours or forever. Please note however, if the listen time is set to over 10 minutes, standard alkaline battery life will be greatly diminished. A battery charger and four AAA re-chargeable batteries, each sold separately, are advised if you would like the remote to have a listening time that is longer than 10 minutes.
