Essential Info
Ditch your preconceptions about programmable remote controls, because the new Home Theater MasterĀ® MX-500 will turn them upside down! With this amazingly cool remote, you can enjoy the true customization of learning, LCD-screen remotes, without sacrificing one ounce of the ease-of-use and comfort of pre-programmed remotes with tactile, rubber buttons! You'll be able to control any of 10 audio/video devices (or your X10 home automation system) by pressing one of the customizable component buttons positioned around a brightly lit, customizable LCD display. Plus, its five-way joystick makes navigating menus a snap!
The remote is already programmed to operate more than 1,000 existing audio/video components (including digital video recorders, DVD players, VCRs, cable boxes, satellite receivers and audio equipment), which will save you hours of programming. Yet it still has the ability to learn 530 functions from components that haven't even been invented yet, so it will never be outdated! Furthermore, all the settings can be easily cloned from one Home Theater Master MX-500 to another perfect for anyone that requires more than one remote control per household.
One of the Home Theater Master MX-500 Remote's coolest features is its customizability, including the ability to re-label the 10 buttons that surround the screen, on 10 different LCD views. That amounts to 50 totally customizable buttons! Use them to label your favorite channels, radio stations, or other functions for which there are no existing buttons, like Video 1, Video 2, contrast/brightness, or any other function you choose.
The MX-500 is also capable of sending out a series of commands with one button press (macro ability). For example, the remote can be programmed to turn-on all of the components within a home entertainment system at the touch of one button, that way anyone in the family can watch a DVD or VHS tape, even if Dad isn't around to change all the settings. Three dedicated "hard" macro buttons, as well as the "Power" and "System Off" buttons can send out up to 20 commands each. Additionally, the 10 device buttons can send out up to 20 programmed commands when pressed for more than two seconds.
The unit can also be programmed to "punch through" operations to any of the 10 audio video components for volume, channel selection, and transport control. For example, the user can raise, lower, and mute the volume on the A/V receiver while operating the remote control in the satellite mode, so you're not tapping through multiple screens just to raise the volume, or raising the volume on the TV when you really want to raise the volume on the home theater receiver.
If you plan on using the remote to operate your home automation features, it's already pre-programmed to operate the X10 IR Command Console (sold separately), making it easy to control lights, appliances, thermostats, even the hot tub heater so you can crank it up without stepping outside first!
The folks who designed this remote have put an incredible amount of thought and planning into it, leaving no details unturned. For example, a separate "light" button on the side activates the backlight every time you pick it up, so you won't have to press a function button to activate it. It's also made with a textured case and rubber buttons with a GemStone finish to improve visibility and durability. A sleek ergonomic design allows the remote control to fit comfortably in one hand, with a strategically placed joystick for easy thumb navigation.
The LCD screen and all the buttons on the remote incorporate "EL" illumination technology, which provides very bright, yet energy efficient illumination. Powered by the four included AAA alkaline batteries, the remote control features a built-in memory back up system designed to prevent memory loss for one year, should the batteries be removed.

"A bit wierd to program but I figured it out. The contrast on the lcd screen is a bit hard to read at night but the backlit buttons are excellent. I have a phillips pronto that kicks its butt, but it cost WAY more money. All in all a good deal." - MARK - SCOTTS VALLEY, CA
"The best universal remote I have had to date (and I have spent way too many dollars on them). The base of the unit could be bigger to keep it from tipping when the outer buttons are pressed with the unit just laying on the table.
Otherwise, codes worked well. Punch through is adequate, but I prefer the "last function programmed" used in other units. The button layout and selection is great and the LCD makes for easy use.
Nice product. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.
" - LAWRENCE - MOBILE, AL
"Worked very well. Have another at home already." - PAULO - NEW YORK, NY
