Essential Info

Many new homes and office buildings already contain structured cabling systems of not only electrical and phone wiring, but also inexpensive cat. 5 twisted pair cable, which is commonly used as a data line. Take maximum advantage of this existing wiring by adding baluns to each end. These small transformers convert audio and video signals from unbalanced to balanced and vice versa, making the necessary impedance adjustments for A/V signal transmission between different wiring systems. This means that you can run your signal over inexpensive cat. 5 wiring, rather than rewiring your home in order to send component video and digital audio signals from room to room. These Component Video/Digital Audio Baluns are designed for use with HDTV component video and/or digital audio equipment, sending component video and digital audio transmission up to 1000 feet. The Component Video/Digital Audio Baluns are sold in pairs and are designed to work together. A Coaxial RCA S/PDIF audio connecting cord is required for digital audio signal transmission and is sold separately.

Transmit Component Video Over Cat. 5
Ideal for such devices as DVD players, satellite receivers, plasma displays, projectors, monitors, amplifiers, switchers, and other equipment supporting HDTV component video and/or digital audio, the Component Video/Digital Audio Baluns allow one component video (YPbPr or RGB) signal and one digital audio signal to be transmitted via cost-effective unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable in a point-to-point configuration. Used in pairs, the Component Video, Digital Audio Baluns support 480i/p, 720p and 1080i/p resolution for hi-definition (HDTV) video applications.

Transmit Over Longer Distances Than HDMI
HDMI is a great connection protocol, but it's limited in how far you can transmit - the signal degrades at lengths over about 10'. However, with these baluns and some Cat 5 cable, you can successfully transmit HDTV signals up to 500' without degradation. Now you don't have to worry about poor signals when connecting a projector to your rack system or feeding the plasma screen in the den.

    Advantage of Using Baluns
Because they contain isolation transformers and utilize twisted cabling, baluns eliminate the ground loops that cause background hum and rolling interference. Baluns also extend transmission distances, passively transmitting audio and video signals up to 2500 feet. In addition to these Component Video/Digital Audio Baluns, numerous audio and video baluns are available and are sold separately.

    Perfect image, no issues.
LARRY -- glen burnie, MD   3/12/2009
The unit was quick and easy to install and worked perfectly right out of the box. I am using balun pair to send component video and digital sound output from cable STB on main floor of house to an HDTV located in the basement.
    KEITH D -- deer park, IL   6/29/2008
    good all around
    ROB -- lewisville, NC   5/2/2008
    Worked right out of package
    KIRK -- flushing, MI   3/22/2008
Awesome! I hooked the product up (without any adjustments to my CAT-5) and the picture worked perfectly. Simple setup and excellent product.
    EDWARD -- plano, TX   1/9/2008
The pair of baluns works great to transmit HD over CAT5. No problems in over a months' use. You are limited to mono sound over a single CAT5 but this is not a problem for me since I am sending to an LCD TV using the TVs speakers.
    ROBERT -- ventura, CA   12/20/2007
This device does exactly as promised, solves the problem of quality component video over a long run
GARY -- richmond hill, GA   12/16/2007
Works great. Sending HD signal to 720p plasma over fireplace. Used a 'Y' adapter to send the analog audio. Suppose to be digital only, but it works fine.
    Scott -- salem, Oregon   6/3/2009
This is a good product, however it took some time to resolve a gremlin in the machine. This unit it subject to ground loop issues. I was connecting over a 100 ft Cat5 cable to another room in my house and the image was completely unwatchable green horizontal image distortion. After much trouble shooting, I lifted the ground on my LCD display and the problem was 100% resolved. The manual that comes with this unit has no practical troubleshooting - no mention of ground loop sensitivity - so be prepared to lift the grounds on your equipment for acceptable results. FYI, this same Cat5 cable/run worked fine with VGA baluns with no ground loop issues.
    John -- richmond, VA   7/1/2008
Great product! perfect picture quality. Wish it could do analag audio, I ran a single coax along with my cat 5 and attached these ends http://www.smarthome.com/7824.html for left audio and the balun for the right side. They're both equal volume.
    NICOLE -- reno, NV   7/13/2007
The Balun is exactly the product we needed to send our video signal over Cat6 to the television from the media closet.
    ANTHONY -- calgary, AB   5/24/2007
Have not yet had the time to test these devices out. The only thing that I think this devices lacks it support for IR input/output
