    EchoVue 4-Channel Digital Video Recorders have no tapes to maintain, replace, or rewind. That means they can be set up once and virtually forgotten about until you have to review video footage. Its robust 160GB hard drive allows continuous recording for up to 2 to 4 weeks under the most common recording conditions. Recording time varies depending on quality, number of cameras recorded and recording rate. When the available hard drive storage space is used, the EchoVue 4-Channel Digital Video Recorder will automatically record over the beginning of the video. No more worrying about rewinding or changing tapes, or replacing them as they wear out.

    Simultaneous Playback and Recording
    Another great feature of the EchoVue 4-Channel Digital Video Recorder that you can't get from an ordinary time-lapse VCR is the ability to view recorded video while the system continues to record. For example, you can view a specific time, date and camera number without having to stop the recording. Search functions during playback allow frame-by-frame viewing, fast playback, and playback of alarm events.

    Remote Monitoring
    Thanks to EchoVue software, you'll also be able to monitor the camera site remotely over the Internet. This allows users to view and download both live and recorded images from anywhere in the world you can access the Web. If equipped with pan/tilt cameras, the system will even let you control where in the room the camera is being aimed.

    Easy Access to Front Panel Control
    Operating and programming the EchoVue is effortless with the easily accessible front control panel. This makes it easy for you to place the DVR in locations where you don't have easy access to the rear of the equipment.

    Built-in 4-Channel Multiplexer
    A quad/switching display of live video from all four cameras can be viewed during recording.

    Alarm Trigger or Continuous Recording
    Recording can be done continuously, for a scheduled time in a 24-hour period, or on an alarm input basis. Each camera has its own alarm input for alarm-activated recording. Using a combination of these programmable features allows the user to extend the total recording time. This model features built-in pixel-based motion-activated recording.

    Password Protection
    The EchoVue uses password protection to guard against unauthorized or unintentional recording or playback.

    Embedded Linux Operating System (O/S)
    EchoVue has much higher reliability than PC based DVR due to its high performance CPU(32BIT RISK CPU) with the Embedded Linux OS.

    Multitasking Operation
    Live view, playback and network transmission can be performed while recording.

    Great DVR, easy to use once you read the manual. Like the browser access from anywhere and was able to check our home while on vacation. Definitely install it outside the bedroom because of the noise; I have it in the garage connected to a wireless access point. I download the individual files to my PC and can fast forward for quick review; it can be time consuming to open one file at a time, and I would have to go to the garage to review directly on the DVR.

    It works, BUT... Purchased echovue 405 as NEW in 2008. Sora is the manufacturer of these units. Unit works with Internet Explorer version 6x and Windows 2000. Sora does NOT offer any patches for use with more current browsers or operating systems. Caveat Emptor! Will try to exchange this new unit with Smarthome. I consider this a defect as Sora does not keep firmware up-to-date with current or even previous generation standards. Smarthome - pull this off your shelves. Please note: If you have this unit, you must open ports 1104 and 7777 to access via the web. This info is NOT noted clearly in the instructions.

    Updated Review: The Echovue 405 firmware is out-dated. However, I did the leg work and now you can use this with IE7 and Vista. After contacting Sora tech support, I was given these instructions. If you have IE7 and Vista, use these instructions to access the DVR from the web. Remember, You will need to first access the DVR setup and set the network settings and then access your router to open a couple ports. Go to port forwarding and add ports 1104 and 7777. Then you can apply updates for IE7 and Vista. Finally, view your cams from the web by simply putting in an address like http://your internet ip address:7777 Instructions for configuring Vista and IE 7 to work with EV405/805 DVR. • In Internet Explorer go to Tools-Internet Options-Advanced tab o Check “Restore advanced settings” o Check “Restart Internet Explorer. settings” o Restart Internet Explorer • In Internet Explorer go to Tools-Internet Options-Security tab o Click on trusted sites o Uncheck https verification o Type in trusted address o Uncheck phishing for trusted sites • Go back to security tab in internet options o Put a checkmark in download unsigned active X “prompt” box. Restart IE and you are done.

    At first it was difficult to get through all the menus and figuring out specifics... The manual is very basic and does not give you any details as to operations, suggestions. repairing issues etc. I did speak with someone last weekend regarding connect and viewing on my PC and was supposed to get a call back... Never got it and will now need to start over with another Tech representative.

    The 77308 DVR works well with most cams. The instruction manual leaves alot to question. The unit does not comes with the BNC adapters to connect the cams, which I thought was odd. I wish the technical department had more insight to dealing with Routers and other issues in regards to connecting vai the internet. So far so good... will let you know how it all turns out.

    This unit is everything it promises and more. Multiple configuration options which allow for most custom installs. The DVR is constructed in a solid case and operates very quiet.

    Very nice piece of equipment. The magnetic latch plate came off during shipping and we had to glue it back on but it was not a problem. The recorder works great in a test environment. Web-stream of video works well too. Cumbersome at first to understand but afterwards, it was fine.

    Very nice recorder that performs as advertised, even better. Please note, as it states in the blurb, the DVR records in a Linux-based proprietary format, so playback of the video files on a Windows OS can only be accomplished with the included player software. The files can be copied and transferred in a Windows environment, but not clipped/edited or converted to a Windows compatible video format. Theoretically, you could playback the video from the DVR and use an SVHS video-capture card on your PC, then the video would be Windows compatible and editable. This may not be a problem for standard uses of the Echovue (i.e. security camera recordings), but can be a problem if you have other uses for the recordings you make. I am happy with the performance and features of the DVR, but I wish I had realized the video format would limit my use of the video. Hopefully this comment will help those of you who are considering alternate uses for the Echovue and your videos.
