Old video surveillance systems used to require a remote access system, a camera multiplexer; a time-lapse VCR, and an unlimited supply of videotapes for remote viewing and digitally storing video from a multi-camera system. Now you can get the capabilities of all those products in one with this 4 Channel H.264 Network DVR. There are no tapes to maintain, replace, or rewind; once this DVR is setup it can be virtually forgotten about until you have to review video footage, as the 250 GB hard drive offers ample storage. Up to four surveillance cameras can be connected, including full remote control of Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) cameras, all of which can be set for motion detection with area selecting and sensitivity adjusting by each camera. You can manually, or via the included remote control, view and manage the live display, recording, backup and playback from your surveillance cameras; or if you are away from home you can remotely view and manage your DVR system over the Internet. The 250 GB hard drive and H.264 circuitry will allow for storage of high resolution video (up to 720x576) for hours on end. This DVR packs in everything needed to digitally record, view and manage the video feed from your surveillance cameras, sold separately, whether you are at home, at work or on vacation.

H.264
H.264 is a standard for video compression, and is equivalent to MPEG-4 Part 10, or MPEG-4 AVC (for Advanced Video Coding). As of 2008, it is the latest block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard. The ITU-T H.264 standard and the ISO/IEC MPEG-4 Part 10 standard (formally, ISO/IEC 14496-10) are jointly maintained so that they have identical technical content. H.264 creates a standard capable of providing good video quality at substantially lower bit rates than previous standards (e.g. half or less the bit rate of MPEG-2, H.263, or MPEG-4 Part 2). It is also flexible enough to allow the standard to be applied to a wide variety of applications on a wide variety of networks and systems, including low and high bit rates, low and high resolution video, broadcast, DVD storage, RTP/IP packet networks, and ITU-T multimedia telephony systems, and in this case digital video recording.
Sensor Input
Up to four normally closed or normally open style sensors can be used with the DVR to trigger recording.
Monitor Output
The 4 Channel H.264 Network DVR with 250 GB Hard Drive supports two types of monitor output: composite (BNC) and VGA (DSUB-15). Only one monitor output may be selected at a time. If multiple cameras are being used, you can customize the sequence rate between cameras. Additionally, you can freeze an image or digitally zoom on an image at any time.
Display
You can view a single surveillance camera in full-screen mode or multiple surveillance cameras in several different multi-display modes or Picture In Picture (PIP) mode.
