Essential Info

Why waste time and energy running back and forth to the mail box to see if your mail has arrived, let the Mail Chime do it for you! This wireless solution couldn't be any easier to install or use, and makes life more convenient. Simply mount the battery powered sensor on your mailbox door using double sided tape (included), and then plug the receiver into an electrical outlet anywhere in your home. When your mail is delivered, you'll receive and audible and visual notification; the sensor transmits a wireless signal to the receiver, which will beep four times and a bright red LED will illuminate. The Mail Chime has a 450 foot wireless communication range and an adjustable volume control. The sensor works on curbside, wall mounted, and slot type mailboxes, making it ideal for almost any application. Just press the reset button after retrieving your mail to set the Mail Chime up for the next day's delivery. Additionally, the Mail Chime can be used as a security device to notify you if someone is tampering with your mailbox. Includes a long lasting 12 volt battery.

Installation Note: The Mail Chime is not for use on mailboxes with "vertical hinges". These are often called "cluster type" mailboxes which have vertical doors that open like doors on a house.

    Product received was defective. Only worked occasionally. Return and replacement procedure was easy to follow. Replacement installed yesterday and is working fine, so far. This is replacing a 10+ year old unit. The volume control on the new model is a definite improvement.

    purchased this unit for my parents who are elderly,they always made several trips to mail box to see if had been delivered,saw the mail chime unit and thought maybe it would help keep someone from falling and getting hurt especially in winter months.I installed and set up the chime unit for them and it works like a charm.they know at a glance whether mail has gone through yet.only downside is unit is called a chime,it in no way has a chime sound.just a buzzer type noise.but other than that it does its job very well,highly recommend if this can help you too>

    Works great but we had to move it around the house to find a spot where it works consistently. Not the best spot but good enough. May be that the trees on our wooded lot interfere.

    When it works, it's great. Our roadside mailbox is about 100 ft from our house. Some days the base station gets a signal that the mailbox has been opened, other times, no signal. We've walked back and forth testing it often. It may be that in cold weather, below 30 degrees, the transmitter won't work. (This is Maine, after all), but they should notify the potential customer of such limitations. We've tried moving the receiver from window to window to get the best "line of sight" and still no consistantly dependable alert! These things are so cheaply made, one might work well, while another fails. There's no quality control and responsibility. They just seem to sell this crap to make a buck. Not impressed by Smarthome anymore!

    Outstanding product. Don't know how we ever lived without it. Now we only make one trip to the mailbox a day instead of 4-5. Our mail delivery is so unreliable these days, we never know when they are going to deliver the mail. One day it's 2 o'clock the next day it might be 6 o'clock and then noon. This product has saved us numerous trips to the mailbox.

    This unit is working fine. The one I bought 2 yr ago became intermittent and finally quit working at all. I have an older unit at my other house and it has been flawless for many years.

    I have used this product for several years. It has been very reliable with only one exception: the plug-in power supply of the receiver failed abruptly after a couple of years. No problem: Radio Shack has generic replacements that last much longer. Take the receiver to a Radio Shack store to make sure the replacement power supply will resolve the problem. I suspect power supply failure may have been responsible for some of the negative reviews. One tip: keep this device a closely held secret, or you may experience false alarms. My next-door neighbors mentioned it to their kids, and the novelty swept through the kids' neighborhood grapevine like wildfire. Every kid who learns about it compulsively sets off the alarm at least once.

    I had a technical question a few months after I purchased this unit. On a Sunday, I decided to call them, expecting to leave a message and get a reply in a few days. Their answer 'machine' was turned off and I found myself chatting with Mr. Hanna at the company. Well, maybe's he's rich and famous now and doesn't bother with that Sunday crap anymore, so YMMV. ; He answered the question I had [about resetting the unit]. Anyway, the little chime is still working fine now, about three years and counting.

    I'm happy with it except in the frigid temps in MN, it doesn't stay stuck to the door. It needs screw holes to be able to screw it in to the door. I have it duct taped.

    So far the unit is working just as I expected. Even though I am only a short distance from my mail box it is nice knowing when the mail comes. The adjustable short beeps plus red light work great in letting me know I have mail. I just wish it could tell me if it is "junk mail" or not. Ha!Ha!

    This worked a treat, though I didn't use it for mail. I modified it to be a dry contact sensor. I have had it in action for 7 months and it is still working great.
