One of the simplest INSTEON products to install. Good price for the functionality if you want some intermediate automation options at your house.

The magnetic sensor switch only has one connection (think it is NC) which means it is a bit harder to make programs work than in the older versions that apparently had both NC and NO connections available.

Really like this kit. Was easy to install and setup. Only bummer is you have to put it to on / off when using it with the ISY. Would be nice to just be able to do a click action vs. having to push button twice. No biggie once you understand how it wks.

Easy to install. Linked it to a KPL that lights up red using add on lens filter and now I know at a glance whether he door is open and can close it from ANYWHERE

Does exactly what I wanted. When the garage door opens my Houselink software knows it. From that, the software turns on lights so we don't come into a dark house at night. I've also set the Houselink up to test to see if I've left the garage door open after dark and to automatically close it. This system can be set to trigger any Insteon or X-10 event even without the Houselink software. One caution to anyone with a lot of electronic devices in your house: you'll probably need Filterlinks on computers and other techie things as well as some BoosterLinks for larger houses. I used to have lots of missed signals until I when to the expense of using lots of the Filters and Boosters but now my rather extensive house automation works flawlessly.

Still have not been able to operate the garage door by system, technical support extremely inefficient, no understanding end user problems, still long way to go to get even rating, experience with smarthome and insteon horrible. I/O Linc not working and connecting 2412N controller not communicating LED Light bulbs still after 3 weeks backorder technical support is suggesting more related items to make connection possible regret buging the systems

So far I am less pleased with SmartHome customer service than with this product. The included I/O Link seems to be defective, and the customer service solution is to plug directly into my Powerlink 2414U. For obvious reasons this is unacceptable. The I/O link does sync with my software when plugged directly, and once that is done, it will work remotely for several days, but then disappear and require re-syncing. I have several other Insteon devices that work flawlessly, and I do have Access Point phase couplers on both phases. I have ordered a new I/O Link with fingers crossed. But I am not happy that customer service was so resistant to helping me. When connected, the Garage Door Control & Status kit is great - does exactly what you expect. The instructions were a little vague, but installation was reasonably straight forward. Mounting the sensor to the floor seemed a bit odd, so I mounted it to the center of the top door frame, right where the top of the door settles when the door closes. This protects the sensor much better from abuse and weather, and allows me to run the wire along the top of the door opener rail. Also, the sensor can be wired as Normally-Open or Normally-Closed by using the red or the green wire. My software reports the state of the sensor, so Normally-Closed coordinates the door state with the sensor state (sensor closed means door closed, etc). The sensor can be wired either way and work fine. I am looking forward to being able to check my door without going into the garage, and adding "door open" alerts to my software so that I don't forget the door... if I can get a working I/O Link.
