Essential Info

Enhance the versatility of your INSTEON network using I/O Linc – INSTEON Garage Door Control & Status Kit to let you know if you accidentally left the garage door open and remotely close it if necessary. This kit takes advantage of the bi-directional capability of I/O Linc - INSTEON Low Voltage / Contact Closure Interface ( 1 In / 1 Out ), allowing it to send a command that indicates the status of your garage door and to receive a command that operates the garage door. Using INSTEON automation, you can link a button on a KeypadLinc as a status light to indicate whether or not your garage door is open and remotely open or close the garage door from other areas of your property using that button or another button on a KeypadLinc, SwitchLinc or RemoteLinc.

Caution:
You should only remotely close a garage door when you can be sure it is safe. Use of safety beam devices can further increase the safety of remote garage door control and are usually required by law. Smarthome is not responsible for any damage from proper or improper functioning of the device(s).

How It Works
The included garage door sensor mounts to the garage door and is wired directly to I/O Linc’s sensor input. When the garage door is open, the garage door sensor triggers I/O Linc to send a signal that will turn on an INSTEON controlled light and/or report its status, for example, to KeypadLinc status LED’s or PC software. Additionally, I/O Linc’s output relay wires to your garage door motor just like your existing button, allowing you to remotely operate your garage from any INSTEON controller.

Two sets of 20 Foot 2 Conductor, 22-Gauge/AWG Interconnect Wire, White have been included to provide connections between devices.

Please Note: For garage door openers with an LCD screens, you will have to set the momentary duration to 0.5 seconds.

Want to be able to check if the garage door is open or closed from your smartphone? There are two ways to accomplish this using SmartLinc:

Set up an IP camera in your garage and view it via the SmartLinc screen and then close (or open) your garage door from the same screen (IP camera instructions).
Display status directly on a scene button in SmartLinc. To do this you'll need to link the I/OLinc sensor to an INSTEON device such as an ApplianceLinc. You'll then need to link the ApplianceLinc to the SmartLinc. The SmartLinc will then be able to read the state of the sensor input to determine if the garage door is open or closed.

Magnetic Contact Sensors
Smaller magnetic switches have a small operating gap where the contact and magnet must be within half an inch for reliable operation. While those switches are fine for most doors and windows in a home, they just won't cut it for larger doors. The included magnetic contacts operate functionally as far apart as 2 3/4 inches, making them ideal for garage door applications. A flexible 24" stainless armored cable protects the wires as they run along the ground or up the wall.

Works as advertised. Make sure when stapling the wires to the wall not to staple too deep, or the insulation on the wire will be breached and the sensors will appear to not work.

I can't believe the Garage door control doesn't include an audible alert. using the link with such a small light is impossible to see if the location is not close and even then not noticable. If it hadn't cost me to have it installed would send it back. For a blind person it is useless but also an audible alarm alert a person regardless on where he/she is located in the house. Very disappointed this time!!!!!

I really love this product! The directions could be more accurate though - such as be consistent with wiring color, and explain why you would want to use which wire. The directions should also incorporate some of the great advice from the forums, since it was a little difficult to scrounge up information from users in there for a first time user.

Once I've gotten the kinks worked out, it does what it's supposed to do, but the instructions are quite inaccurate and less than helpful. You have to hunt around the forums at Smarthome and Universal Devices (for ISY) to fully understand the Insteon programming. For most applications, you really want the switch to signal when door is open, not closed. This requires using the red/black leads rather than the green/black leads as suggested in the instructions.

The sensor installed very easily if you are a little handy and have masonry drill bits to mount to the garage floor. The directions to the I/O Linc were a little confusing and required a phone call to tech support. Tech Support was very help full. And, if you plan on linking the I/O linc to a KeypadLinc, I discovered you really need to integrated a non Dimming LampLinc to the system. You will find this information on the forum.

Once I followed the instructions the garage control worked as described. Linked with a lamp module I can now see if the garage door is open without getting up and going outside.

The Garage Door kit works well and was not too difficult to install. I wish it came with one longer control wire rather than two so I wouldn't have to splice. I use this in conjunction with Houselinc 2 on my PC and it sends me an email every time the door is opened. It does at times miss an open or close event, but I do not know if that is an issue with the kit or the Houselinc software. Overall I'm very happy.
