Essential Info

The X10 Light Sensor provides a way to sense light or darkness and trigger X10 devices based on user settings. It interfaces to a standard X10 Powerflash device (purchased separately.) The sensor is completely self contained and uses a solid state transducer preset at the factory. There are three leads extending from the sensor. Depending on your application, the user selection of leads determines turning on or off devices based on whether to trigger when there is more or less light than a preset value. The user selects two leads, sets the approximate light level using a small screwdriver, connects the sensor to the Powerflash terminals, plugs in the wall transformer, and places the sensor in the appropriate location.

This product is compatible with X10 devices only. For an INSTEON compatible version, consider using the Minotaur Engineering LS2 INSTEON Light, Dusk/Dawn Sensor.

Works well, but really needs to be bundled with the required powerflash module!

Overall - really liked this unit. The challenge is unlike temp gauges, you can't just pick a light sensitivity number without knowing what it is. This is common to all analog sensors. How I did it on this one is set it up, and set it approximately to what I thought I wanted window sill and small screw set adjustment. I observed when it came on and off and over a couple days got it just where I wanted. That was about a year ago and it has been rock solid since. It is a real pleasure to drive home on rainy / cloudy days and everything comes on early if needed and otherwise follows the seasons if you can say in Seattle that we really have seasons... Anyway, this works better than anything else I have tried and I have tried a bunch of items.

I did some research to decide on what would work best for me, and found this unit. I have really liked it and it has been very reliable. I have not found any of the Minotaur products elsewhere but Smarthome has always delivered for me without issues so I didn't mind getting from here. Good product and fair price.

Got this unit for several applications. At first had some trouble when it would switch, it seemed to cycle a few times. Then I learned it was my Powerflash unit and not the sensor causing the issue. Since that time it has worked flawlessly. You will need to adjust the set point with a small screwdriver but the unit is rock solid after that. A good value and I would recommend.

Worked just like I wanted it too. Just remember it is triggered by amount of light or darkness. I literally just plugged this in, adjusted it, and it worked perfectly since. I would recommend.

First time I have purchased something from Smarthome. I had a positive experience. I had an old X10 light sensor that they quit making. I liked it, but the sensor was attached to a 4 button controller and I could only turn on when dark as well not the reverse. It finally died and I haven't had anything since this device came available. This device worked very well, it is sensitive enough that I can use it instead of a timer ie, it turns on as required on cloudy days etc. versus strictly on a schedule that I have to adjust all year as the seasons change. Instructions were clear and the device appears robust I haven't had it long tho. Only thing different is that it needs to be attached to a Powerflash of which I have plenty. Otherwise it is a better replacement than what I have had before.
