Water leaks often occur in areas that may be hard to see right away, such as behind appliances or in areas of your home that may not be used often, such as basements. Undetected water leaks may end up causing thousands of dollars in damage. Protect your home from potential water damage by keeping a Smarthome Water Leak Detection Alarm anywhere flooding is a potential danger. When the unit detects water, it sounds a loud alarm so you’ll know when and where the excess water is. Its small design allows it to fit in tight spaces, under a washing machine, behind a toilet, next to a water heater, or anywhere else water could possibly leak and collect in your home. The Water Leak Detection Alarm requires the use of one 9-Volt battery, sold separately.

    Place the Smarthome Water Leak Detection Alarm flat or upright, so it can fit easily and discreetly in almost all locations. When water is detected by the metal sensors, the 95db alarm will sound for up to 72 hours.

    The alarm will also sound and the LED light will be activated when the battery gets low. Battery life when in constant alarm mode is three days. Under regular use the battery life is over one year, however annual battery checks are recommended.

    Smarthome recommends placing at least one Water Leak Detection Alarm in every bathroom, in the kitchen, by your water heater and close to your washing machine.

    I've heard horror stories from friends who had leaks that caused massive damage before they were discovered. These alarms can save a homeowner big bucks and a lot of inconvenience. I put them under sinks, by the hot water heater and behind my washing machine.

    Pros: it works and it detected a leak already for me once in my kitchen sink area Cons: i tried going ahead with the package battery and ended up being awakened at 5am in the morning due to low battery a little after two months or so. So advise to install initially some good battery types prior to putting in place. In my case, i had to climb into the attic to retrieve and pull bad battery which was a little inconvenient.

    Well-made item, looks as though it will last some time. I can't say how well it works to detect a leak because (luckily) we haven't had one, but certainly as soon as you lay your finger across the two metal contacts, the alarm emits a loud shriek that would be hard to miss. It also has a low battery warning, which is good. I bought 3 of them; no regrets at all, I'd recommend them.

    Worked. Alarm will sound as soon as you insert the battery if you are touching the sensors. Hopefully I'll never hear the alarm again, but from what I can tell, this will work just as I had expected.
