Essential Info

Get advance notice of potentially hazardous water leaks with a system that alerts you when leaking water is detected. The WaterBug Leak Detection System can be used with virtually any security/home automation system that accepts a dry contact closure. Use it with the EnviroAlert Systems, X10 Security System Wireless Transmitters, the JDS TimeCommander Plus or a Sensaphone. This AC-powered system has normally-open or normally-closed contacts and requires a power supply, sold separately.

The WaterBug Leak Detection System comes with one surface sensor. You can also add up to 5 additional sensors (sold separately).

Also available in a battery-powered version.

Note: The Waterbug does not work with deionized water.

the perfect safety device for my application which is a 2nd floor laundry room. this unit is installed and connected to an electric water valve circuit providing automatic shut down and alarm in the event of leakage or burst pipe, saving my home from major water damage
    JOSEPH -- garner, NC   10/30/2011
Works fine, but says "may connect up to 6 sensors". I assumed this meant that they were set up as zones, but instead are just in parallel so you don't know which sensor is alarming. Also didn't come with the required power supply.
    AMIE -- paris, MO   8/29/2011
We started off to be pleased with your device assuming it would protect against water damage. We tested it twice before permanantly installing the water bug and have now discovered that the sensor has failed.
    MERVYN -- farmville, VA   6/27/2011
    Does exactly what it says.
PETER -- montana city, MT   11/14/2009
Once I got the wiring right, it worked fine.
    LEE -- raleigh, NC   7/27/2009
Exactly what it says it is. If used with a APC environmental management card there is no need for a seperate power supply, you can power it from the APC card itself.
    SHERRI -- rochester, NH   10/18/2008
This product could save hours of sleepless nights when I'm away from my vacation home.
JOHN FARLEY -- pelham, NH   9/6/2008
Good quality product. The instructions are sparse but cover the basics. No warning about needing an additional power supply, but this is overcome easily enough at the local HW store, so it's not critical. I bought 3 additional sensors so that the WaterBug will drive one valve on the water main and trip an alarm on the home automation controller, in case of a leak. Good product overall and will simply and easily protect the various areas that need it.
    LEE -- belvidere, IL   7/15/2008
There was no indication that this unit came without necessary power. Now I have to track down a compatible power supply and wire to be able to install. Very disappointing.
    RALPH -- charlevoix, MI   11/26/2007
States in description that a external power supply is required but does not give the specifications for the power unit.
    jerry -- Massachusetts   12/27/2008
69*Waterbug water sensor does not come with a power source, and there is no apparent way to order it online at this site. Also, if power goes off, this device will send an alarm to the smartphone right away and there is no way to delay the alarm on the smartphone using the channel this accessory is attached to. A better choice may be the battery operated version of waterbug sensor. Wiring from Waterbug to alarm console is not included, either, so set aside plenty of time to ask questions instructions are cryptic and for trips to the hardware/electrical store for supplies to get this device up and running.
    C M -- austin, TX   4/21/2007
Well built, heavy sensor. Does what it claims it will do, what more can you ask?
    JULIE -- elkton, MD   3/8/2007
Everything showed up on time and as described. Thank you!
    DELMAR -- preston, WA   2/8/2007
Product performed the primary function I needed. The "no contact with concrete" restriction is a bit obsurd for this type of product but it can be worked around.
    HAROLD -- medfield, MA   9/25/2006
This unit tripped when it got a bit humid. It was on a concrete floor. Product documentation states it will not trip in humid conditions. There is NO note anywhere in product documentation stating not to place on concrete floor. I had to contact manufacturer to have them tell me to place it on a more "non-conductive" surface. I have it connected to an X-10 220v switch's nornally-open contacts to turn off my well pump if the basement floods.

I really appreciate the quality and variety of products offered by SmartHome.
    MARK -- milford, MA   3/17/2006
Great selection, excellent service, competative pricing, fast delivery. What else could I ask for?
JAMES -- winston salem, NC   1/4/2006
Excellent - used in combination with an Elk Delay Timer for a "solid state" sump pump float switch.
KIM -- idaho falls, ID   12/14/2005
Just what I was looking for. Installed the water sensor right after it arrived, seems to be working fine.
    JOHN -- chelmsford, MA   10/31/2005
    worked great!
