Connect to a Digital Video Recorder Old video surveillance systems used to require a remote access system, a camera multiplexer; a time-lapse VCR, and an unlimited supply of videotapes for remote viewing and storing video from a multi-camera system. Now you can get the capabilities of all those products in one with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). By connecting up to four cameras to a DVR, you will be able to record and review video footage of activity around your property. You can even remotely access your video footage using a Network Digital Video Recorder (NDVR).
Lux Lux rating is the amount of minimum illumination that a camera can have and still pick up an image, 0 being the lowest, or no light. So the closer the lux rating is to 0, the better the camera will operate in no light or low light situations. The PTZ Dome Camera with 30x Zoom can pick up images in 0.1 lux.
Resolution Resolution is the amount of horizontal TV lines that make up a picture, so the higher the number of the resolution, the better clarity your picture will have. Note that the monitor or recording device you use must have a resolution equal to or greater than the resolution of the camera, as it will do you no good to have a camera that can output in 540 lines of resolution but have a monitor or recording devices that only picks up images at 300 lines of resolution. The Indoor/Outdoor Vandal-Resistant Vari-focal Color Dome Camera has 500 lines of resolution.
Zoom Lens Most cameras come with a lens that has a fixed size, giving you a fixed focal length or field of view. A zoom lens' focal length is adjustable, in the case of this PTZ Dome Camera with 30x Zoom from 3.8mm to 38mm, which will allow the user alter the field of view at will. As focal length (and magnification) change the foucs will change as well. These lenses are ideal for situations where the required viewing distance may change. Optical zoom is different from digital zoom, as optical uses glass lenses to change the image reaching the electronic image sensor; digital zoom merely enlarges a portion of the image you see. If a car occupies 100 pixels, you can expand its image digitally to the full width of your monitor, but it's still only 100 pixels. However, if you want to read the car's license plate, use optical zoom; in this case 10x, and the car's full image would be 1000 pixels. The license plate might then be 100 pixels wide, and readable.
Pan and Tilt Most cameras are fixed in one position after installation and adjusting the mountin g bracket. However, a pan/tilt camera has motors that move the "guts" of the camera inside its housing, allowing the user to select what is seen by the camera at any given time. When combined with a zoom feature, in this case 10x optical zoom, you can rotate the camera, pivot it up and down, then zoom in tighter or out to a wider view until you see exactly the scene you require.
