Install this unit and it will call you when any of the sensors go beyond the preset limits. Independently powered by internal lithium batteries (included). The water detection sensor can be used with all Sensaphone models to detect the presence of water on a horizontal surface. Independently powered by internal lithium batteries which should last for approximately 3 to 5 years. This item will go to five stars after I have used it for one year. I have had no TRUE alarms, but test runs worked well.

I have known Sensaphone for the last 20 years more or less, is a extraordinary piece of equipment, I have the old ones and they work beautiful, I have 4 of them. This time I am going to purchase the model 800, is sad does not have also the ethernet, but I guess I will have to conect the 800 and the 600 together; this time I want to use it for flood detections, toilets flood on all the bathrooms and kitchen and laundry water detections. Smarthome is a great place, I have purchase for the last 18 years, more or less all my gadgets here, congratulations to both keep it up...!!!

Unit was delivered promptly, as is usually the case with Amazon and their partners. The instructions say to install the batteries before connecting to the sensaphone 400 unit. The unit uses a hard-to-find battery (CR1225) and I had to try several stores, finally finding them at Batteries Plus. After all that running around, it turns out the unit came with batteries installed. The instructions could have been clearer, hence the three stars.

5 star. Thank you very much!
    JOHN -- brookfield, WI   1/28/2011
    Easy installation and testing.
    GEORGE -- arlington, MA   11/16/2006
Very poor quality. Manual does not explain how to change the battery. You need to call technical help to learn that the rubber feet hide access screws. However, the screws are very difficult or impossible to remove. Manual also does not explain that the other screws that look like they are holding something inside are actually water probes, yet it refers to these unrecognizable probes. It does not mention that these screws cannot be shorted by placing he detector on a conductive surface.
    RICHARD -- novi, MI   10/30/2006
This arrived with one of the two internal batteries loose, inside the unit. I figured I could just unscrew the "box" , but the screws were too tight and I had to drill them out! I was to finally reinstall the loose battery and it seems to function as it should. It should be easier to disassemble, seeing that the batteries will require replacement from time to time. I taped the box closed with electical tape. The batteries should be in a more secure holder.
ROBERT -- colorado springs, CO   3/22/2006
Will do just what I need it to do-alarm if the water heater floods the basement.
    GARY -- novi, MI   3/13/2006
Easy to install. Works real well.
    CHARLES -- westford, MA   3/24/2005
I tested this unit and it works well. It seemed very expensive for a little circuit that just measures resistance, but it saved me from doing it myself.
JAMES -- royse city, TX   3/17/2005
    Works great
    ADAM -- bexley, OH   10/2/2003
    Wonderful pieces of equipment.
PAULINE -- oak park, IL   9/24/2003
Hard to see how this item is a probe and how it could possbly sense water but I guess it is working.
