Essential Info
The Niles Audio DS7PR 7-inch Left, Center or Right Channel In-Ceiling / In-Wall Speaker was designed for 5.1 and 7.1 channel home theater systems as the left, right and/or center channel. The Directed Soundfield (DS) woofer pivot mechanism enables the speaker to direct the sound to optimum the listening area. The 7-inch glass fiber woofer cone was designed for improved dynamics, smoother sound and less peaking at high frequencies. The 1-inch Teteron tweeter pivots independently of the woofer to provide additional control of the sound, offering an ultra-wide dispersion and smooth high frequency response. The tweeter can move up to 15° (30° when the woofer is also in the maximum tilt position). A three-position tweeter switch allows you to adjust the high frequency output of the loudspeaker to compensate for room acoustics. The center position does not affect the tweeters output. Moving the switch to the - position reduces the tweeter output by 3 dB to compensate for bright rooms (tile or wood floors, spare furnishing, tall ceilings). Moving the switch to the + position increases the tweeter output by 3 dB to compensate for absorptive rooms (carpeting, lots of drapery, plush furniture, etc.). A dialog compensation switch provides additional definition at critical midrange frequencies where the human voice is reproduced, generally used only for home theater center speaker applications. To complete a 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround sound system, use a DS7PR for each of the front left, front right and front center channels and match it with the Niles Audio DS7FX 7-inch Surround Effects In-Ceiling / In-Wall Speakers, for the side and rear channels. Please Note: DS Series speakers from Niles Audio are designed for an in-ceiling (ceiling mount) installation as their primary application, but can be used for an in-wall (wall mount) application as well. Niles Audio 3rd generation Directed Soundfield (DS) speakers offer amazing performance and versatility. The rust-proof MicoThin speaker grilles magnetically attach to the speakers for a flush mount to the ceiling or wall, leaving an unobtrusive, seamless blend, and can even be painted to match with any room decor. You can install with confidence and ease using the spring-tensioned mounting clamps that adjust to expanding and contracting surfaces. Weather-resistant construction enables installation in moist areas, such as bathrooms or outdoors under eaves.
Installation
Left/Center/Right - Position the center channel loudspeaker directly over the television, with the left and right speakers equidistant from the center. The separation between the left and right should not be more than the distance to the primary seating area.
Running Wire in Walls or Ceilings
When running loudspeaker wire inside walls or ceilings, use special jacketed cable (CL-2 or CL-3 rating) to protect the wire and for fire prevention. In some municipalities, conduit is required. For a trouble-free installation, low voltage wire such as loudspeaker wire must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any applicable provisions of the local building code. If you are unsure of the correct installation techniques, wire jacket, or type of conduit to use, consult a professional audio/video installer, building contractor, or the local building and inspection department.
