If you plan to install a home theater system, give it a professional finish with this pair of Niles CM860 In-Ceiling / In-Wall speakers. Each speaker has an 8-inch interlaced glass fiber cone that is lightweight yet extremely rigid for deep, powerful bass response. The butyl rubber surround increases sensitivity while preserving strength of sound. The 1-inch Teteron tweeter with liquid cooling is perfect for high frequencies and pivots for precise aiming of high frequencies up to 20° without diffraction. The tweeter is controlled by a proprietary bridge-mounted 3-Position level adjustment for precise matching to room acoustics. Constructed of high-impact ABS, this pair of speakers is extremely durable, featuring weather resistant material and a UV (ultraviolet) additive to resist the "yellowing" that can occur over time when exposed to sunlight - which reduces installation limitations and provides unique solutions in moist environments or outdoors under eaves. Included are a pair of paintable flush-mount aluminum grilles that are acoustically transparent and let sound pass through for a clean, discrete installation. The Niles Audio CM860 8-inch two-way in-ceiling / in-wall speakers are ideal for handling up to 150 Watts (each) of power from a stereo or amplifier and have pivoting tweeters. The Niles Audio CM850 speakers also offer 150 Watts each, with a TCC woofer (interlaced glass fiber). If your home theater doesn't put out that much power, take a look at the Niles Audio CM830 speakers (125 Watts each). Please Note: CM Series speakers from Niles Audio are designed for an in-ceiling (ceiling mount) installation as their primary application, but can be used for an in-wall (wall mount) application as well. Installation
These speakers are designed to be installed in any standard ceiling. There are two considerations for placing your speakers; ease of running the cable to the loudspeaker and coverage of the loudspeaker. The best stereo effect will be achieved if both the loudspeakers are at equal distance from the listener and closer together than the listener is from the loudspeakers. Avoid installing the loudspeakers near corners to prevent a 'boomy' or diffracted sound. CM800 series speakers will cover an area of a circle with a 16-foot diameter when mounted at an 8-foot height.
Running Wire in Walls or Ceilings
When running speaker wire inside walls or ceilings, use special jacketed cable (a minimum of 18 to 16-gauge two-conductor CL-2 or CL-3 rated loudspeaker wire) to protect the wire and for fire prevention. In some areas, conduit is also required. For a trouble-free installation, low-voltage wire such as loudspeaker wire must be run in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any applicable provisions of the local building code. If you are unsure of the correct installation techniques, wire jacket, or type of conduit to use, consult a professional audio/video installer, building contractor, or the local building and inspection department.
