These components are designed for the new 802.11g standard, an extension of the prevalent 802.11b standard. The new 802.11g standard increases the data transfer rate within the 2.4GHz band up to 54 Mbps, utilizing OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology. When the standard becomes finalized, a simple downloadable firmware update will update the router, access point, PCI, and CardBus adapters to the final specification.
