Your cat's collar key transmits a digital coded infrared signal, which is decoded when the key comes within range of your pet door (approximately 6 inches), permitting only pets with keys of the same code to enter the house. The door re-latches automatically after the length of time you determine. Additional keys are available to be purchased separately if you have more than one cat.

The Cat Door's four-way manual locking system will allow you flexibility in mandating your pet's movements: choose from In Only, Out Only, In and Out, or Locked, denying access from either side, should such a situation be warranted. Its magnetic assisted closure protects your home from rain, drafts and heat loss.

The Infrared Locking Cat Door will fit any window, wall or door, and detailed installation instructions are provided. However, if you are installing the pet door in a glass door, it is recommended that you it be fitted by a professional glazier. The Cat Door even includes a detachable tunnel section, allowing it to fit any door to a maximum depth of 2 inches (54mm).

The Infrared Locking Cat Door is appropriate for cats up to 15 pounds. If your cat is larger than this, or if you would prefer a door suitable for a dog, please try the Infrared Locking Dog Door.

"A good door....for a while. The door itself isn't bad but the collar keys are a bit of a pain: 1 they don't seem to be high quality construction and can be flaky in their operation or easily damaged when trying to replace the battery. 2 It's impossible to tell when the battery is going out. There is a little flashy light but it blinks only about once every minute which makes it awkward to notice. 3 My cats managed to loose the key collars...they must have broken off or in one case the two halves fell apart because the cat came home with only the shell of the key. We used the door successfully for 1 - 1.5 years, but over that time had to purchase 4 keys because of the above mentioned issues, and at $30 a pop that adds up. Finally we missed that our one cat's key had gone out again the other cat was staying indoors for the winter, so he managed to break his way in and now the door just swings without latching. We had the previous staywell model with the non-powered keys and I wish they would bring that concept back but just improve it's range. At this point I'm investigating away from Staywell and looking for other manufacturers." - datico - Beaverton, OR
"transmitter collars only work intermittenly..very fragile and poor battery life. also expensive to replace. when cat walks up to the door they have there head down to push the door, which in turn blocks the infrared collar from working so the cats learned to just push harder and the door will pop open. this eventually led to the plexiglass door to break in half. i have since removed and discarded the door. would not reccomend" - vince - seattle
"DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE RACCOONS COMING IN!!! The functionality of how this locks the door to only allow your cat come in and out does not stop smart raccoons. I have a mama raccoon who knows how to lift the door from the outside and comes inside to eat all the cat food :(" - - California
