"This item works perfectly for my 55 lb chocolate lab. I can set up her food times and not have to worry about rushing home to feed her or waking up super early when she is hungry. I always keep my eye on it though and make sure the food is coming out. One time I filled up the container and the food didn't come out, I had to jiggle around with the dispenser part because it got stuck. But overall this has been a really helpful item. If your dog or cat is prone to knock things over, I would be sure to put it between something to keep it from falling. "Though this product received many bad reviews, it also received enough good reviews to convince me to try it anyway. One of my cats is very overweight, and everything I've tried has failed to work, so I thought this might be helpful. I'm also away from home a lot, so I don't have to worry about putting down extra food for them when I'm gone. I've only had the feeder over two weeks, but so far I'm very pleased with it. It was easy to set up and program, and I can already tell a difference in my overweight cat thanks to the portion control. Of course it's not going to be accurate; I think it's a little foolish to believe it would be, but the difference isn't significant enough to make much of a difference. My fat cat has only recently figured out how to stick her paw up inside it, but the kibble I feed them is large (Science Diet), so she doesn't have an easy time getting any out of it. I was feeding them much smaller kibble (Iams), which did slip out at random sometimes, but since I switched none has come out when it's not scheduled to.
