Dog Repeller seems to work very well. I've recommended it to others.

It accomplished what I needed it for, but I would not want to depend upon it to stop a dog attack.

The device appears to work well on a dog that was ignoring commands to leave the house. It now obeys, albeit reluctantly.

While it is difficult to evaluate a device that makes no sound that humans can hear, it does appear that dogs ( and cats ) DO hear something and alter their behavior. So far I have not used dog repeller to ward off an attack, but have used it to "train" barking dogs encountered while walking the neighborhood. The dog's usual response is to lower the intensity of barking. Cat's making beeline to my yard quickly alter course. Based on my experience to date, I would not rely solely on dog repeller to ward off an attack of a determined dog. Carry a backup.
