Essential Info

Scare away racoons, stray dogs and cats, opossums, skunks, chipmunks, deer, squirrels, gophers, moles, rabbits, voles, woodchucks, coyotes, etc.

The Critter Gitter uses a passive infrared sensor to detect the body heat of animals within a 40 ft. range. This battery-powered device then produces startling high-pitched sounds (note: sounds are audible to humans) coupled with flashing lights to scare animals away. The sound pattern changes randomly so animals do not get used to it. You can also use the Critter Gitter to train pets to keep away from certain areas. Features include high/low volume settings. You'll enjoy wireless operation for up to a year with a single 9-volt alkaline battery (included).

I'm pretty sure I like it, it is certainly loud and scares me every time I walk past it. The noise shakes me to the core and I hope the coyotes feel the same. I think I like it enough to probably order more. Very easy to set up, nothing to it. If it keeps the coyotes away from my pens, I can deal with jumping out of my skin every time I forget it's there.

This device is the greatest! It not only alarms for bears and such soming in the yard but we have had a string of home invasions in our area and it definately alarms and scares away burgulars. Get one of these it could save your life!! I have 3 of them.

After dealing with bears getting into our shed and tearing down the door, I tried the critter gitter and it has kept them away for a month now! Something people should know is the batteries that come with it say they are only temporary and should be replaced after a month. They shouldn't put a temporary battery in a new package because often people don't read the fine print and think it just quit working.

Very effective repeller for cats, racoons, etc. No effect on our wild turkeys. Considerable variation in sensitivity unit to unit. Needs all weather housing.

So far, so good. I got this to keep the cats away from the birdfeeders. It's doing a pretty good job of that. Doesn't faze the squirrels though. It's been outside in rain and snow and is still going strong inside it's little baggie. I do wish that it was completely weather-proof.

Works as described. Siren and flashing lights are set off by rabbits, squirrels, dogs, and people. My neighbors were curious about it. I guess I should have told them about it. Since I have used the Critter Gitter, I have not seen the foxes in my yard. Another good sign is that the rabbits have flourished. They are not detered by the siren. My neighbor's dog is also used to it. I plan to purchase more and give them as gifts. The siren will scare any intruders who try to sneak into your home while you are out or asleep.

Units work well but there is a wide variation in sensitivity. poor weather protection. I have made housings for each unit which provides ample weather protection.

I set these up around my tent for the summer to keep a (black) bear from being quite so interested in us. While it doesn't seem to provide a different light/sound sequence each time as advertised, it certainly has done the trick in scaring the bear away. He mostly avoids my camping area, and skedaddles pretty quickly when he trips the alarm. I haven't had to replace the batteries yet, and the alarm is loud enough that the nearest neighbour can hear them going off and calls to check on me when he hears them at night!

Not useful because it is NOT weatherPROOF. The little plastic bags that come packed with the units are a joke. Condensation forms inside the plastic bag and on the unit. Very unhappy. Would not recommend unless used indoors.

We are using the Critter Gitter in combination with the Scarecrow (water sprayer device also sold here) to deter woodchucks from eating our herbs and vegetables. The combination works quite well. I noticed that the woodchucks returned when the battery for the Scarecrow died. Likewise we had limited success using just the Scarecrow but together with the Critter Gitter the woodchucks stay away from the garden. Obviously no deterrent is going to work 100% but if you're looking for a humane solution this combination has worked for us.
